Robertson Setback:
Penalty Dims Chances for Bowman Gray Championship

Winston-Salem, NC: For a family that has raced at Bowman Gray Stadium for nearly 50 years across three generations, the hopes for a track championship faded Saturday night. Ryan Robertson, the 24 year old driver of the #23 Timothy D. Welborn/Make-A-Wish Chevrolet had the points lead firmly in hand in the Sportsman division going into twin 20 lap races. Both races carried double points this weekend.

The night began with Robertson finishing 7th in the first race, maintaining his overall points lead for the season. Early in the second race, Robertson made contact with another car, causing damage to the fender. Officials black-flagged the car for repair based on the visible damage. Upon entering pit road, Robertson was penalized three laps for excessive speed. Due to the short nature of pit road at Bowman Gray, there is no published or measured maximum speed. It is up the official on site to make the determination. Robertson finished the second race in 23rd. The result moved Robertson 32 points out of the overall points lead.

"I just can't tell you how disappointed we all are", said Robertson. "It's been a family dream to win a championship here for a long time, and to have this kind of thing set us back is a real blow. The whole team was really working hard, and our sponsors have really been pulling for us. We'll just have to see what the rest of the season has in store here. There's still a shot." Robertson is sponsored by The Law Offices of Timothy D. Welborn, Make-A-Wish, and Carolina Wood Floors.

Bryant Robertson, driver of the #72 Carolina Wood Floors/WSSU Motorsport Management Chevrolet, suffered from a bad draw on the first race and finished 20th. He then rebounded in the second race and moved quickly through the field to finish 8th.

Ryan Robertson's car will be on hand for the Make-A-Wish benefit festival to be held in the Lewisville Town Square on Saturday, July 31st from 5:00 - 8:00. The young driver also already has plans to run at North Wilkesboro Speedway later this year in the Short Track Shootout, and will make his third appearance at Martinsville Speedway for the Late Model 300 there.
