 Sonoma Can’t Come Soon Enough for Anderson
 
Mooresville, N.C., July 13, 2010 – Racing on consecutive weekends in the NHRA’s Full Throttle Drag Racing Series is an arduous task.  In the span of a few days, teams must perform any between-race maintenance and repairs on their race cars, pack up their pit area at the first track, travel from one city to the next and set up camp in the new location before tackling the challenge of competing in the next event.  With leisure time at an absolute minimum, both drivers and crews appreciate the few moments they have to themselves during the course of the week.
 
In the case of Greg Anderson and the Summit Racing Pro Stock team, however, this weekend’s Fram Autolite Nationals in Sonoma, CA cannot come fast enough.  After winning the last two races in Norwalk, Ohio and Seattle, WA, the Mooresville, NC-based team is understandably anxious to return to action.
 
“I’ve always enjoyed racing in Sonoma, but as well as my Summit Racing Pontiac is running right now, this weekend’s race just can’t get here quick enough,�?? said Anderson.  “Both the team and I are in a positive mode right now, so we don’t want to take a break.  We just want to go out and do it again.  I’m not about to say we’re going to go into Infineon Raceway and be bad to the bone, but we definitely have a better product than we’ve had all year, and we’re getting better with every race.  
 
“It’s all a matter of having everything in sync.  If you get the race cars running better, the team starts making better decisions, and the driver gets happier, which leads to getting the results on the racetrack.  I can’t say enough about the job Rob Downing, Tommy Utt and my entire Summit Racing crew have done in the last month.  I couldn’t be any prouder of them, and can’t wait to get back to the racetrack.�??
 
Part of Anderson’s eager anticipation can be attributed in some part to his team’s phenomenal record at Infineon Raceway.  In nine previous appearances, he has been the No. 1 qualifier six times, backing up those performances on race day with three wins in six final round appearances.  When combined with the accomplishments of his KB Racing stable mate Jason Line, those numbers rise to five wins in eight final rounds, giving the three-time champion more reasons to want to visit the Napa Valley beyond simply going to the many wineries for which the area is known. 
 
“Infineon Raceway has always been a tremendous track for the KB Racing team,�?? said Anderson.  “It’s a world-class facility, with a smooth racing surface and the air is usually pretty good there. Looking at the forecast, it’s supposed to be fairly warm throughout the weekend, which are conditions that are currently right in our wheelhouse.  
 
“This a great time for us.  (Team owner) Ken Black is getting better every day and our team is coming into the weekend on a tremendous roll, with everyone feeling very upbeat.  We have a couple of fast hot rods, and we’re back in a good rhythm.  I don’t say this fairly often, but I really believe we are going into Sonoma with a great chance of putting both Summit Racing Pontiacs in the final just like we did last year.�??

At Infineon Raceway:
 
Anderson has been stellar in Sonoma: In nine prior starts at Infineon Raceway, Greg has three wins in six final round appearances and seven finishes of the semifinals or better.  Greg’s win total ties him with Warren Johnson, Darrell Alderman and Jim Yates for the most wins by a Pro Stock driver at the California quarter-mile.  Greg’s most recent Sonoma win came in 2007, when he qualified #1 and defeated his teammate Jason Line the final.
 
One year ago: Greg was the number one qualifier with a 6.571-second time, and defeated Ben Watson, Kurt Johnson and Rickie Jones before finishing as the runner-up to his teammate Jason Line.
 
Anderson’s Sonoma Qualifying Stats:  In his nine starts at Infineon Raceway, Greg has been the #1 qualifier six times, most recently one year ago.  Overall, he has an average starting spot of 3.67 in Sonoma.
 
Trying for the Triple: Having won the previous two races in Norwalk & Seattle, Greg is trying to win three consecutive races for the eighth time in his career.  The last time he accomplished this feat was in 2008, when he won the Englishtown, Norwalk and Denver events.
