Coughlin aims to clinch Countdown spot in Sonoma SONOMA, Calif. (July 13) – After an uncharacteristic mistake in Seattle last Sunday, Jeg Coughlin Jr. said he’s going to take the week before this weekend's Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals at Infineon to unwind and get mentally prepared to race again. "On the Western Swing we don’t typically make the travels back east," Coughlin said. "So getting to spend a few extra days out west is a nice treat. "It’s such beautiful country with the rolling hills and the vineyards, and little bit of R and R won’t hurt a bit." Coughlin’s JEGS.com Chevy Cobalt fell to fourth in the season standings after a rare first round red light at the Northwest Nationals in Seattle. He now trails third place Greg Anderson by 25 points and he’s not yet clinched a spot in the Countdown to 1 (only two Pro Stock drivers have), but a few more round wins during the Western Swing should take care of that formality with ease. "We want to get the corner turned like we had four or five races ago," Coughlin said. "We want to run to our capabilities from Friday when we get there to Sunday when we leave. We just need to catch that stride, which we’ll get." Like most tracks on the NHRA circuit, Sonoma is a place where Coughlin has been successful. He has a win in two final round appearances and a No. 1 qualifier on his Infineon resume. The Fram Autolite Nationals get under way at 4 p.m. PDT on July 16 from Infineon Raceway. Eliminations start at 11 a.m. PDT on July 18.
