Line Looks for History to Repeat Itself in Sonoma

Mooresville, N.C., July 13, 2010 – In the sport of drag racing, teams rarely experience what is considered a perfect weekend, earning the No. 1 qualifying position, setting low elapsed time and top speed of the meet and ending the weekend in the winner’s circle. Naturally, the difficulty becomes even greater when an organization encompasses more than one entry, as the teammates must then square off in the final round.

However, in the past three editions of the Fram Autolite Nationals in Sonoma, CA, Jason Line and his Summit Racing running partner Greg Anderson have accomplished the feat twice in 2007 and 2009, with the two splitting the victories, as Line used a hole shot to better his teammate one year ago. With a total of five wins in nine final round appearances for the talented duo, it is a record of success that the 2006 champion would like to add to during this weekend’s edition.

“Historically, Infineon Raceway has been a great track for the Summit Racing team,?? said Line. “Both Greg and I have multiple wins there, including two all-Summit finals, which is ideally what we want to do every race. But even without our tremendous record, we would still enjoy going to Sonoma.

“It’s a nice area with great fans, and as a Bruton Smith-owned track, you know everything will be top notch. On top of that, the weather is expected to be good throughout the weekend, although a little warmer than normal. Fortunately our cars seem to like the heat right now, so it’s all good.??

Line has multiple reasons for wanting to do well in the Napa Valley. Naturally, he would like to join his teammate Greg Anderson as one of few Pro Stock competitors with multiple 2010 wins. More importantly, with only three races before the start of the NHRA’s championship playoffs, the Countdown to One, he not only wants to guarantee his participation in drag racing’s “second season??, but also looks to secure as high a seeding as possible to put himself in contention for his second title. Fortunately, seeing his teammate’s impressive performance in the last two races, he comes to the Napa Valley confident in what his team is capable of.

“This team has made significant progress in the last few weeks, and it has started to show on the racetrack,?? said Line. “My Summit Racing Pontiac has been the best it’s been all year, and although the results might not yet show it, we’ve had a car capable of winning the race. That’s important heading into these last three races, as well as the Countdown itself.

“It’s great that Greg has started winning again, because it lifts the spirits of every single person on this KB Racing team. But now it’s time for me to get back on the winning track. To do that, we need to be error-free on all fronts, including inside the race car. All the pieces are there – the car is running well, the crew is making smart decisions and we’re heading to a track where we’ve won in the past. It’s up to us to put them together in the right order so we can add to our winning history at Infineon Raceway. After all, it’s been almost a year since our last all-Summit final, and I think we’re due for another.??
