Thatcham Recognise Vehicle Security Installers
THATCHAM, UNITED KINGDOM – July 13, 2010: Thatcham launched their new Thatcham Recognised Installer (TRI) scheme this week in front of an audience of insurers, installers, press and interested vehicle security personnel, at a specially arranged briefing in London’s Lloyds Building.
Following the demise of the VSIB (Vehicle Systems Installation Board) in 2009, Thatcham stepped in as a national insurance accreditation body to provide a simple assessment and monitoring scheme for vehicle system installers. In the short term, this interim solution provided insurers with the imperative requirement of proof of equipment installation, so that the appropriate reductions in insurance premium could be sensibly offered.
The newly updated and completely redeveloped TRI scheme launched this week will build on the existing solution to providea database of Thatcham Recognised Installers and electronic installation registration certificates covering all Thatcham listed aftermarket products where a certificate of installation is required and administered through the Thatcham website www.thatcham.org.
Thatcham Recognised Installers will need to comply with a range of conditions including proof or relevant product training and PNC (Police National Computer) checks whilst satisfying the finer points of the TRI criteria. Installers will then be listed on the Thatcham website gaining recognition from insurers and consumers and market advantage through their use of the official TRI logo.
Meanwhile, consumers benefit from this countrywide installer network through assurance of a quality installation, reduced risk of vehicle theft and enhanced vehicle re-sale value.
Mike Briggs, Head of Vehicle Security, at Thatcham, said, “Thatcham have moved quickly with the TRI scheme to provide an effective quality checking scheme for insurers and the motoring public. By increasing the quality of certification within the system the scheme will reduce the risk of fraudulent certificates and incorrect installations, whilst providing a competitive marketing edge for those recognised installers.”
