Line Qualifies Sixth at Pacific Raceways, Salutes Fellow Racer

Event: 23rd annual NHRA Northwest Nationals
Location: Pacific Raceways, Kent, WA
Day/Date: Saturday, July 10, 2010

After posting the quickest time during the first day of qualifying for the NHRA Northwest Nationals in Kent, WA Jason Line and the Summit Racing team felt confident their 6.612-second time would be good enough to guarantee a solid starting spot for Sunday’s final eliminations at Pacific Raceways. As a result, they used their final two attempts on Saturday to work on their set-up for race day, as well as experimenting in other areas.

Their on-track efforts produced a mixed bag, with another 6.612-second pass in the morning session to secure the sixth starting position followed by their final attempt being cut short by severe tire shake, a condition which struck several of the top cars running in the left-hand lane. Even so, Line was relatively pleased with his performance, feeling good about his chances for a second Seattle win. However, he was even more enthused by the effort put forth by 73-year-old competitor Jim Cunningham, who qualified for the first time in his Pro Stock career.

“We tried a few things today, and learned a lot, so I’m confident we’ll have a good car for race day,?? said Line. “Throughout qualifying, we made gains with both Greg’s (teammate Anderson) and my Summit Racing Pontiacs, and I believe we have a pretty good handle on what we will need to do tomorrow. Things seem to be coming together for this KB Racing team, and I like our chances for Sunday.

“The best part about today, however, was that Jim Cunningham qualified. He’s put a lot of effort into his Pro Stock program, and it’s great to see him finally get rewarded for all his hard work. I congratulate both he and his crew on getting the job done, and look forward to seeing him come out on stage for drivers’ introductions tomorrow as the oldest driver to ever qualify for a Pro Stock race. My hat’s off to him.??
