Anderson Steps Up, Starts Fourth in Seattle

Event: 23rd annual NHRA Northwest Nationals
Location: Pacific Raceways, Kent, WA
Day/Date: Saturday, July 10, 2010

The second day of qualifying for the NHRA Northwest Nationals provided racers and fans with much more favorable conditions than those encountered on Friday, with the cooler temperatures creating wholesale changes in the Pro Stock starting line-up. Summit Racing driver Greg Anderson was among those moving forward, posting one of the quickest times in each session, with his 6.610-second, 209.20 mph pass in the morning run earning the three-time champion the fourth starting position. After completing his qualifying effort with the second quickest time of the final session, the Concord, NC resident was cautiously optimistic about his chances for race day.

“We didn’t make a great run this morning, but our Summit Racing Pontiac came back with a pretty decent one in the last session,?? said Anderson. “A lot of racers have been struggling with the racing surface this weekend, and we know from our past experience here at Pacific Raceways that when the track gets hot, it turns in a hurry, and you lose traction.

“We have great air up here, and a lot of power, obviously, with cars running 210 miles per hour, but the track just gets too hot. Although it took us more runs that we would have liked to figure out how to calm our cars down, the bottom line is that we did get it done, so we know where we need to be for tomorrow.

“We expect the conditions to be the same tomorrow as they were today, so I think Jason (teammate Line) and I are going to have two great hot rods. We’ve learned a lot in qualifying, and definitely made some gains, so I’m looking forward to race day.

“The last couple weeks have been great for me. It really seems like we’ve turned the corner, and have started to find some performance and consistency, giving us a legitimate chance to win a race on Sunday. We’ve got some confidence going into tomorrow, and I think I have as good a chance as anyone to take home the trophy. I’m going to go out there and give it all I’ve got, and hopefully at the end of the day we’ll have ourselves another Wally.??
