HAGAN QUALIFIES NO. 7 IN SEATTLE
KENT, Wash. (July 10, 2010) - Matt Hagan secured the No. 7 spot in Funny Car
qualifying for the 23rd annual NHRA Northwest Nationals, setting a
4.258-second run at 264.60 mph in today's third round under hot and sunny
conditions.
On Friday, he recorded a 4.371/275.79 (No. 4) and a 4.791/168.68 (No. 13).
In Saturday's final try he clocked in at 5.948/110.16 under tricky track
conditions in the left lane.
"The left lane is giving us some trouble," he said, "but we have lane choice
tomorrow and we'll try to keep lane choice throughout the day. We'll try to
keep the DieHard Dodge Charger staged shallow and go up there and have some
good racing.²
Hagan faces Jeff Arend for the eighth time this season (6-1) in the opening
round. "We're lined up with Arend again, for the eighth time, and so I know
those guys are saying 'what the...?" and we're saying 'what the...?' But
that's racing. They're good racers. They're not going to do anything stupid
up there and neither are we. We'll go up there and race and we're excited to
race them again tomorrow.
"They beat us last time so owe them one."
