MCCLENATHAN CLAIMS N0. 3 IN SEATTLE QUALIFYING
KENT, Wash. (July 10, 2010) - Racing the FRAM Top Fuel Dragster, Cory
McClenathan grabbed the No. 3 spot in qualifying for the 23rd annual NHRA
Northwest Nationals.
He recorded his quickest pass of 3.921 seconds at 308.35 mph in the final
session on Saturday in ambient temperatures in the 80s and a track surface
temperature hovering around 120 degrees. His other tries included Friday's
4.677/164.15 (No. 10) and a 3.936/306.46 (the second quickest of that
session, for No. 3). Saturdayıs third pass of the weekend was a 3.940/302.55
(No. 3).
"I can't complain," said McClenathan, the 1997 event winner here at Pacific
Raceways. "The FRAM car is running good, even in the heat. To go out there
and run the .92 in the fourth session, in which (points leader) Larry Dixon
ran the .91, I'm happy with that. I think we have a god race car for
tomorrow. It's supposed to be a little cooler, so that should help us.
"I'd like to stay in the left-hand lane tomorrow. It's not one of those
things where it's really pertinent, but I have a feeling the crew chiefs
might think it's important. We'll have to stage it thin and get low ET."
McClenathan faces Mike Strasburg in the opening round of Sunday's
eliminations.
