Marcos Ambrose: "I will come to Montreal. . .as often as it takes for me to win here"

Montréal, July 1, 2010 - Marcos Ambrose, one of the good-natured drivers on the NASCAR circuit who, since 2007, has come close to winning each of the three times he competed at the NAPA Auto Parts 200 Presented by Dodge, confirmed today his return for the 2010 running of the event on August 28-29 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Ambrose is not returning to Montreal this summer because he is chasing the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide title, but because he wants to win on the Parc Jean-Drapeau track layout. "I will come to Montreal. . . as often as it takes for me to win here," Ambrose said when he confirmed his return to the city banked by the majestic St. Lawrence River.

"In all fairness to all the drivers scheduled to compete in the 2010 NAPA Auto Parts 200 Presented by Dodge, we are delighted with the return of Marcos Ambrose and wish him all the best in his quest for that elusive win on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve," said François Dumontier, President of Octane Management and delegated promoter of the event. "If Marcos finally wins here, I am asking fans to celebrate his victory: first, because he will have earned it, but also to give him the desire to come back again over the course of the next few years to try and win it again."

"We have led so many laps at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, but a NASCAR Nationwide Series victory at this road course has been elusive for us," Marcos Ambrose said. "We are actually in the midst of preparing cars for the NAPA Auto Parts 200 at Montreal and also for Watkins Glen International. We have two NASCAR Nationwide Series victories at The Glen and we are hoping to add a mark in JTG Daugherty Racing's win column at Montreal. We have only one goal and that's to win the thing."

Ambrose's Montreal stats are the stuff dreams are made of, or close to it. Only a visit to the winner's circle is missing on his checklist. In 2007, he qualified fifth, led 37 of the 75-lap race, only to be knocked out of the lead by Robbie Gordon near the end of the race and eventually finishing seventh. After qualifying third the following year, he led 26 of the 48 laps in the rain-shortened event to finish third. Last season, he won the pole, led 60 of the 76 race laps, but lost the lead on the last lap to his good friend Carl Edwards who edged him at the finish line by three tenths of a second.

As he did in 2009, this master of the road courses and former Australian V8 Supercar Series two-time champion will only make two starts this year with the #47 JTG-Daugherty Racing entry in the Nationwide Series: August 6-7 at Watkins Glen International where he scored his second win last year, and on August 28-29 in Montreal.
