America’s 911 Foundation Announces that Registration for the 10th Annual Ride to Benefit Active First Responders and their Families is Now Open
WASHINGTON--America’s 911 Foundation announces the opening of registration for the 10th annual commemorative 911 Motorcycle Ride occurring August 20-21, 2010. The ride serves to honor the fallen heroes and victims from the September 11, 2001 attacks, as well as to raise money for the Foundation’s Scholarship for children of Active First Responders in the EMS, Fire, and Police Departments across the country. Over the past six years, the Foundation has awarded over $150,000 dollars in scholarships to over 75 children of Active First Responders and presented First Responder departments with more than $200,000 dollars in equipment and donations.
America’s 911 Foundation was founded in October of 2001 by Ted and Lisa Sjurseth in response to the attacks that had taken place the previous month. The Foundation’s goal is to provide support and assistance for families of those who protect and serve the larger public by answering the 911 call. Every year, the Foundation leads philanthropic initiatives including the annual ride to pursue and promote continued support for its mission.
The ride will depart at the main starting location in Somerset, PA on August 20th. Riders will be able to join the event at various points throughout the route either day. The ride stops in the following places:
- Cumberland, MD (Allegany College of Maryland);
- Hagerstown, MD (Prime Outlets);
- Arlington, VA (the Pentagon);
- Aberdeen, MD (the Maryland House)
- New Castle, DE (Mike’s Famous Harley-Davidson);
- Linden, NJ (Applebee’s).
Escorted by police, the ride makes stops at all three of the 9/11 attack sites to honor the heroes and victims from that tragic day.
The event gathers together all types of people remembering the 9/11 tragedy, from the everyday person to avid motorcyclists to police, fire and emergency personnel. Over the past nine years, the ride has created a sense of camaraderie between participants and given the opportunity to pay tribute to those who served our country that day as well as those who currently serve. In previous rides, the motorcycle procession has gathered many followers who get together on the route and at stopping points to cheer on the riders and show their support for the cause.
Registration is currently open and interested participants can sign up at www.americas911foundation.org. Each bike/driver costs $100 with an extra $25 per extra passenger. Participants can also register on-site the day of the event for a $25 price increase. Participants may also raise sponsorships to participate. New this year, Fans and Participants can stay up-to-date with the ride through visiting and becoming a fan on Facebook, Linked-In, and following them on Twitter.
