SAN FRANCISCO, CA  (6-28-10) –  After being stricken from a possible top five finish due to a collision in the closing laps at Sonoma, Blake Koch and the Golden Gate Racing Team are ready to get back action on the oval this weekend in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West tour. The San Francisco based Richard Childress Development Team is bound to Toyota Speedway in Irwindale this Saturday for the King Taco 200.
Saturday's event is the annual grand affair over Independence Day weekend at Irwindale. The event marks the sixth of 12 races in the 2010 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West campaign. For Koch and the Golden Gate Racing Team, its an opportunity to rebound in the series point standings as they return to a track where they have a good share of experience at over the past two years. The team looks to put the DayStar Television Network #21 Chevrolet.
Expectations are high for the Koch and the Golden Gate Racing Team this Saturday. They plan to debut a newly built car for the event that is sure to be competitive. Additionally, Jonathan Lamb will be a guest in the Golden Gate Racing Team pit area for the event. Lamb is a member of the marketing team of the Daystar Television Network, the title sponsor for Koch and the Golden Gate Racing Team-RCR #21.
"I've been waiting for this race at Irwindale since we tested this new car, this car that Steve (Portenga) and the team put together is just awesome," said Koch. "Not only was it fast, but it didn't fall off on race runs. I'm pumped. I'm also really excited that Jonathan Lamb from DayStar is coming out to watch the race."
Koch recently led laps in the Thunder Valley Casino 200 at Infineon Raceway and was destined for a top five finish in the famed road course in Sonoma. After being struck from behind late in the race in turn 11 Koch suffered a failed drive train that ended his strong run with a 29th place finish parked in the pit area.
"We've made a really good comeback in the point standings so far this year, Sonoma was a little bit of a set back for us and it was no fault of Blake's or the team," said Jim Offenbach, owner of Golden Gate Racing Team. "I'm confident we will have a strong run in Irwindale, Steve and the guys have put together a new car should perform well and Blake has quite a bit of experience there now."
Last year, Koch drive to a ninth place finish in the Irwindale event. It was just the second time he had raced on the Southern California track in his young racing career. Koch and GGRT have two top five finishes and three top tens in the 2010 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. Following their recent rally to the front, Koch is now 10th in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West point standings.
