Intramural Tussle Earns Line a Semifinal Finish in Norwalk

Event: 4th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals
Location: Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park, Norwalk, Ohio
Day/Date: Sunday, June 27, 2010

Jason Line and his Summit Racing team came into Sunday’s final eliminations of the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio determined to successfully defend his win from a year ago. Starting fifth, he quickly established himself as a contender, scoring a hole shot win over defending Pro Stock champion and current points leader Mike Edwards in the opening round. Line’s success continued in the second round, as he used a starting line advantage and a 6.711-second, 205.13 mph run to eliminate veteran Larry Morgan.

The final obstacle between Line and his second consecutive final round Summit Motorsports Park appearance was a familiar sight – his teammate Greg Anderson, who had won the K&N Horsepower Challenge in Norwalk the day before. Once again, Line’s race car delivered a quick run, covering the quarter-mile in 6.718-seconds with a top speed of 205.57 mph. Unfortunately, it was not enough to overcome his partner’s starting line advantage, with Anderson’s 6.723-second, 204.88 mph pass allowing him to just hold on for the win.

Although disappointed by his premature exit, Line was nevertheless encouraged by his team’s strong showing, especially in light of Anderson’s winning the race and capturing the $25,000 bonus for winning both events. Line’s performance also allowed the 2006 champion to advance one position in the championship standings to fifth.

“I probably had the best Summit Racing Pontiac that I’ve had in quite some time today,?? said Line. “It was actually awesome for Greg and I to have the two of the best cars here today. It was good to beat Mike (Edwards) in the first round, but unfortunate that we had to race Greg in the semis, as we would have preferred to meet in the final. I also would have liked to do a better job against him, but things have a way of working out and it still turned out well for the KB Racing team.

“It was just a good day all around, and I’m leaving here pretty happy. However, we’re still not satisfied and have some work to do to get where we want to be, so we’ll enjoy this success today and get back to work tomorrow.??
