SYDNEY - June 25, 2010: While the cost of operation of vehicles has risen in 2010*, Hyundai Motor Company Australia continues to lead the way with i30, ix35 and Getz models being recognised in the 2010 Vehicle Operating Costs Survey conducted by the RACV, RACQ, RAA, RAC and RACT motoring clubs.

According to the surveys, motorists are paying an average of approx 5% more to own and operate their vehicles in 2010*, while depreciation takes the greater slice of the pie at approximately 40%. Fuel accounts for only 15% of the annual costs, leaving purchase price, tyres, service and maintenance, insurance, registration and parts making up the cost and ownership schedule.

The Hyundai Getz S took out the Light Car category for the fourth consecutive year proving it is Australia’s most cost effective car to own at only $126.16 per week*. A sharp purchase price combined with excellent fuel efficiency and an inexpensive service and maintenance program made the Getz hard to beat in the segment.

The popular Hyundai i30 SX 2.0-litre petrol automatic came in top of the class in offering the lowest ownership costs in the Small Car category, costing only $161.16 per week*.

The competitive Compact SUV category saw the all-new Hyundai ix35 2.0-litre petrol manual take the top spot with a weekly cost of ownership of $183.19 per week*.

“Hyundai has always strived to combine latest generation design, safety and quality with an affordable service and maintenance schedule,” said Nick Aravanis Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s Director of Aftersales. “These results from the country’s leading motoring bodies are further evidence we are meeting our promise to the customer, and we are very proud to have not only Getz, but two new generation models receiving recognition in 2010.”

Calculations for the Vehicle Operating Costs Survey are based on a five-year ownership period and average operating costs for private motorists, including an average driving distance of 15,000km. The data was collected in the period leading up to early May 2010.

Comprehensive results of the 2010 surveys are available at the RACV, RACQ, RAA, RAC and RACT websites
