Mitch Dorr - TORC Crandon I Race Report

Rockford, IL (June 23, 2010) - Mitch Dorr, son of former off-road champion Geoff Dorr, has much to live up to with his off-road racing career, and by looking at his results, the hard charger is doing just fine. After a bit of bad luck in Round 2 at Antigo, Mitch finished the Crandon weekend with back to back wins. Now the season's championship points chase is really tight as the top eight racers still have a shot at the title. When Mitch Dorr Racing arrived at the track in Crandon, additional changes to the track had been made since the MORR Test Day back in early May. Along with the high banked corners, the Traxxas Fly Zone Jump had an added lip to really launch the trucks, as well as a serious set of whoops were in place in the midsection of the track. The additions to the track would make the need for horsepower a priority as well as a great handling truck a difficult combination to create. Round 3 The Fabricated Steel ATD Goodyear Ford F-150 seemed to be up to the task, now could Mitch guide the race truck around the Big House for eight non-stop action packed laps? Saturday, he erased any doubt, as the third year driver won his second Mole Lake Cup. In fact other than Crandon's dirt and newly acquired clay that was on the red Ford F-150, not a scratch was even made on the two-time Mole Lake Cup champion truck. Other than the usually cleanup and overnight prepping, #817 Goodyear Ford was ready early in the evening and the crew was well rested for Sunday's rematch. Round 4 The land rush start saw Danny Beauchamp grab the early lead with Mitch right on his bumper. As the two headed into the gravel pit turn Mitch spun allowing the entire Super Stock Truck field go by. Undaunted Mitch dropped the hammer on the Goodyear tires looking to somehow get back to the front of the field before the eight lap feature ended. The hard charging Mitch really put on a show, gradually he began moving up through the field and with two laps to go, the second generation racer was leading the pack. The remarkable comeback was complete as Mitch Dorr crossed the line in first place, followed by Eric Ruppel, and Don Demeny. This was Mitch's first weekend sweep of his career. "I can't believe this weekend," states Mitch Dorr. "Back to back wins really puts us back in the chase of the championship. Goodyear really has the perfect tire for Crandon. My King Shocks were spot on. I really think I made time over through the mid section of the track. From the whoop section to the gravel pit, we passed quite a few trucks. Currently Mitch is in third place in the 2010 Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL Super Stock standings.
