Eric Ruppel - TORC Crandon I Race Report
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ruppel Continues to Podium @ Crandon - Leads Super Stock Truck Points Race Chetek, WI (June 23, 2010) - Eric Ruppel came to Crandon with only one thought on his mind, winning the 2010 TORC Sportsman Super Stock Truck Championship. Last year the Chetek, Wisconsin native lost the chance to become a repeat champion by one point, Ruppel Motorsports is determined not to let that happen again. After four rounds of racing in this year's championship series, it looks like Eric and his crew chief Kent Kramer are very focused on the title. The changes the track officials made to Crandon International Off-Road Raceway this past winter, would definitely allow for more passing in every corner of the layout. This meant you had to be on your "A" game at all times. In the off-season Eric and Kramer redesigned the front and the rear portion of the Phil's Inc. Art Carr Transmission Halama Synthetics BFGoodrich Ford F-150 to accommodate the 3" King Shocks that now keep the white F-150 cornering quick and flying low. The engine and drivetrain cooling system was also updated as the radiators and oil coolers are now mounted in a large shroud behind the cab of the truck. Saturday - Round Three - The Mole Lake Cup The Saturday round of Super Stock Truck racing was sponsored by the Sokaogon Chippewa and the Mole Lake Casino & Lodge. The sponsorship brought additional money to the podium finishers as well as the Mole Lake Cup trophy. The land rush start saw Eric come out of Turn One almost in the middle of the fourteen truck field. The BFGoodrich equipped Ford stayed clear of any serious contact during the first half of the race, waiting to make a strong push in the final four laps. The final four laps saw the #837 Phil's Inc. Art Carr Transmission Halama Synthetics BFGoodrich Ford F-150 race past four other trucks to take the runner-up spot on the podium. Sunday - Round Four Ruppel Motorsports were ready to use the same tactics for Sunday, with the exception of turning it "on" one lap earlier. This round Eric and good friend #885 Don Demeny were racing door to door the final five laps of the race. Somehow on the final lap, Eric was able carry enough speed coming out of the Barn Turn to pass Demeny on the outside to grab second place. At the finish lineit was Dorr - first, Eric Ruppel - second, and Demeny - third. Wow that was some racing," exclaimed Eric Ruppel. "I had a head of steam coming down the front straight and I hope the BFGs would hold me when I got next to Don, and they did. I don't think we even touched. I just can't say enough about the King Shocks. Leighton & Iribe are great to work with and their product is unbelievable."
