Hoek Races to Podium Finish in "New"
V8 PRO-Light Category
Holland, MI (June 23, 2010) - Ross Hoek Motorsports had
high hopes for the new V-8 powered TORC PRO-Light category. In fact, not only
was Ross influential in the rules and regulations of the revised class, he is
one of the division's newest competitors. After a shakedown exhibition at the
TORC Sportsman event in Antigo, the team brought the #21 Venom Energy Drink,
Royal Purple, BFGoodrich Ford Ranger to Crandon. They were very optimistic that
a solid weekend was in store for the new truck. The performance of the driver
and truck did not disappoint.
The 2010
TORC season has made several changes all geared to improve the racing and the
exposure for both PRO and Sportsman drivers. TORC is now under the management
umbrella of the United States Auto Club (USAC) exclusively. The race and
marketing operations are headed by USAC President Kevin
Miller and Vice-President Jason Smith. The PRO series will be broadcast as a
twenty-six week reality series this fall on Discovery's HD Theatre. All TORC
racing will also be broadcast live on the internet, available on www.usacracing.com
and www.torcseries.com.
The opening
and final weekend of TORC racing will be held at Crandon International Off-Road
Raceway. The track managers have also
made changes to improve the racing at this most famous track. The addition of
high banked corners will add a new element of speed for the racers to conquer
and the fans to enjoy.
Ross Hoek
Motorsports had a private test session at Crandon the day after the Antigo
exhibition to ensure the best possible chassis setup, as the orange Ford Ranger
headed into its first weekend of Championship competition. The added time
testing really paid off as the Fox Shox assisted suspension was able to put all
the power through the Auto Trans Design transmission and into the BFGoodrich
tires for maximum performance. The end result was a Round One third place
finish on the podium.
"All the
hard work done this off-season has just paid off," noted Ross Hoek. "We didn't just
make laps waiting for guys to drop off. I had to really race the competition to
get on the box today. This was an awesome beginning to the season. My crew
worked their tails off and thanks to them I'm here. Also thanks to Traxxas for
supporting this class with a great payback."
Round Two
started out equally as well for the Venom Energy Drink Ford Ranger. A solid
start had Ross immediately battling among the top three trucks. Seven laps into
the nine lap event contact was made with another competitor going though the
Argonne Corner, sending Ross for a wild ride. Once the Ford Ranger came to a
stop, there was terminal damage to the front suspension ending his weekend
prematurely.
"Once we
got the truck back to the transporter we evaluated the damage," noted Ross
Hoek. "The chassis along with my ISP seat did their job keeping me safe.
Actually, there are bent suspension components on all four corners but thanks
to the ISP seat, I walked away very easily from a pretty violent wreck."
