JUNE 26 AT THE SPEEDWAY ... PIPE TRADES AND SKID PLATES!

Pipe Trades Night at Toyota Speedway
& THE SKID PLATE CARS ARE BAAAAAK!

Irwindale, Calif. - - The men and women of the Pipe Trades will be the honored guests of Toyota Speedway at Irwindale on Saturday night, June 26. Pipe trades craftspersons work on a variety of projects such as industrial plants, manufacturing facilities, hospitals, schools, and commercial buildings just to name a few.

“Our good friends of the Pipe Trades have been participating sponsors of this facility since we opened,” said track GM Bob DeFazio. “They’ve been a great partner for the Speedway. They tell me that the people who they’ve talked to and recruited for great union jobs from here over the years have turned out to be some of the best ever. And … Their members all are real NASCAR fans. Many of them are here weekly, but this Saturday we’ll especially salute them.”

And, there’s a great lineup of NASCAR for them this Saturday beginning with the AUTO CLUB LATE MODELS. What a season it’s been so far! After a stumble in the first race of the year, Nick Joanides the ACLM 2009 series champ, has been putting up good numbers all season long but still has a paper thin two point lead over young Rod Johnson Jr. (292 to 290). Almost neighbors (Woodland Hills and Canyon Country) they both need to not look back because Bakersfield’s Chris Holloway is directly on their spoilers with 288. Holloway got there the hard way with no wins (but great finishes) as opposed to Nick and Rod who have chalked up five wins (of the seven ACLM races run thus far) between them!

There just plain needs to be some sort of bounty put on the head of third-gen racer Ryan Partridge of Rancho Cucamonga … Partridge would disagree completely, but he’s really “stinking up the show” with his perfect record of six KING TACO SUPER TRUCK wins for six races. Of course Todd Cameron (the Monrovia driver who has finished 2nd four times and 3rd twice behind Partridge) would agree and is only 16 point behind Partridge’s perfect 300 at 284. Matt Kimball, from Mission Viejo is right there too just 40 back (260).

In the VISTA PAINT SUPER STOCKS points chase things are a bit wider with Rich DeLong 22 points out in first at 342. DeLong, from Santa Clarita has won five of the first seven races, with two seconds and a third. Track veteran Bryan Harrell (Riverside) has an all top finishes race record and 320 points, with LaVerne’s own Gary Read not all that far back at 296 points in third.

Daryl Scoggins, who calls Sunland home, has the lead in the JUSTICE BROTHERS MINI STOCKS. Winning the last four races (and never finishing lower than 3rd this season) he’s on a roll and on top in the points at 294. Riverside’s Jacob Rogers is his next nearest pursuer at 266 points and Rod Schmitt from Alta Loma is looking for some “high ground” in the series at 260.

Who’s going for the Million? Not “quite” that kind of purses at Toyota Speedway for the ECHO EQUIPMENT LEGENDS CARS but great, close racing nonetheless. Another Alta Loma resident, Brent Sheidmantle has the lead in this division with a nice, even 300 points. Chad Schug, from Oak Hills is only 10 ducats back at 20, with Bakersfield’s Rick Clark not all that far behind at 268.

There are literally thousands of these terrific little “spec” racing cars in world today and, if you’ve never sat in one, simply show up at this Saturday’s KING TACO ON-TRACK AUTOGRAPH SESSION (5:45PM), stroll up to the first KT Legends Car you see, and ask the driver or crew chief if you can see what it’s like to sit behind the wheel in one of these mini-bullets. That easy.

OK, you’ve seen them on the “Tube”, you’ve heard about them from friends, neighbors, relatives, business associates, and total strangers. And now, this Saturday night you can witness this phenomenon up-close, personal, live and in person…

Mere words, pictures (even unedited video) or oil paintings nor serigraphs just can’t convey the sight of 25 colorful front wheel drive racing cars all making what looks to be a never-ending handbrake turn, all the while spewing a wild shower of sparks from where their rear wheels should be! SKID PLATE RACING as wrangled by Robert Rice has become one of the great fun shows at the Speedway. They’re on this Saturday and YOU SIMPLY NEED TO SEE THEM TO BELIEVE THEM.

The Speedway is located in Irwindale right on the 605 freeway between the 210 and the 10 freeways. Gates open at 4PM, Kids 12 and under are FREE, and the races start at 7PM … but … before that you need to:

MEET THE DRIVERS: The fan/family-friendly King Taco On-Track Autograph Session starts at 5:45PM. That gathering, is the ideal place to get to know the drivers and see the machines up close and personal. And it’s not just “autographs” by any means: fans meet the drivers, take photos, collect hero cards, kids climb into real racing cars, and everyone is a (potential) winner at that time of the evening.

GUARANTEED: One last thing: Toyota Speedway fans are all covered by a unique, iron-clad, money-back ticket guarantee. After the first race of the evening, if a fan is not 100% happy with the show, all they need to do is head for the box office and they’ll get a full and complete refund of their ticket price.
