As a sportsman driver, Jeg also won the Top Dragster class in St. Louis behind the wheel of his brother, John’s 200-mph JEGS.com dragster.
At the most recent event in Bristol, Tenn., Jeg qualified his JEGS.com Chevy Cobalt in the No. 11 spot and reached the semifinal round with wins over Johnny Gray and Greg Stanfield.
In 12 races in 2010, Jeg has qualified in the top half of the field 10 times and has not been seeded lower than 11th at any race.
With 50 career Pro Stock wins, Jeg ranks fourth all-time among Pro Stock drivers. Only Warren Johnson (97), Bob Glidden (85) and Greg Anderson (60) have more titles.
In 272 career Pro Stock races, Jeg has reached the final round 80 times, recording 50 wins. Including his 14 sportsman victories, Jeg has won a total of 64 times, good for ninth place on NHRA’s all time wins list. During his career, Jeg has appeared in 99 final rounds, 80 as a professional and 19 as a sportsman racer.
During his Pro Stock career, Jeg has recorded 455 round wins while incurring just 209 losses. He has failed to advance past the opening round just 65 times.
Jeg Coughlin is a four-time NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Pro Stock champion. He earned season titles in 2000, 2002, 2007 and 2008. As a sportsman driver, Jeg also claimed the NHRA Super Gas championship in 1992.
In 2009, Jeg enjoyed one of his best years as a professional racer winning seven of 23 events and reaching the final round in two others. He compiled a round-win record of 50-17, the second best record in the class.
In three career appearances in Norwalk, Jeg has a round win record of 3-3 in Pro Stock competition.
In Norwalk, Jeg will also participate in the special K&N Horsepower Challenge event, held on Saturday, June 26. The K&N Challenge is a special event that is open only to the top eight Pro Stock racers based on their qualifying performance over the previous year. The champion will receive $50,000. Jeg is the defending event winner of the K&N Horsepower Challenge and also won the event in 1999 and 2000. He has qualified for the event nine times in the last 12 years.
Troy Coughlin will continue his pursuit of the championship in the Get Screened America Pro Mod Series in Norwalk. Troy is currently ranked fifth in the class and is the only driver in the top ten who has qualified at each of the first six events.
Troy has run a best of 5.921 seconds this year in the Get Screened America Pro Mod series, making his JEGS.com Camaro one of the sport’s quickest nitrous oxide-assisted race cars.
The JEGS Mail Order team will also be represented in Norwalk by John Coughlin, third generation racer Troy Coughlin Jr., and Jeg Coughlin’s fiancée, Samantha Kenny, who will each be competing in sportsman categories.
John will be pulling double duty behind the wheel of his JEGS.com Chevy Cobalt in Comp Eliminator and his JEGS.com dragster in the Top Dragster class. Troy will be racing his own JEGS.com entry in the Super Comp class.
John Coughlin is the reigning NHRA North Central Division Top Dragster champion. He has won the title in two of the last three seasons.
Troy Jr. will be racing in Super Comp with his JEGS.com dragster. T.J. earned his first NHRA national event title last year in Las Vegas.
Samantha will also be competing in Super Comp with her JEGS.com dragster. Samantha is the defending Super Comp champion at the Norwalk race. She races with her father, Al, and brother, Jason.
