MCCLENATHAN SNARES NO. 2 IN BRISTOL QUALIFYING
BRISTOL, Tenn. (June 19, 2010) - Once again during the 2010 NHRA Full
Throttle Drag Racing Series, Cory McClenathan drove the FRAM Top Fuel
dragster to a spot high on the chart during qualifying for the 10th annual
NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway, snaring the No.2 spot. He
has not started out of the top half so far all season.
His Don Schumacher Racing teammate Antron Brown landed in No. 1, creating an
all-DSR "front row."
McClenathan's quickest pass came in the cooler Friday night session, in
which he posted a 3.879-second pass at 313.51 mph on a 107-degree track
surface, which had cooled from 128 degrees during the first session
(3.994/301.54, for No. 3). His laps today on a 139-degree track produced a
4.443/188.25 and a 4.035/289.63 (third quickest of that round). He earned a
total of four bonus points for his qualifying efforts.
"I'm pretty happy with it," said McClenathan, who does not count Bristol in
his 33 career victories. "These conditions are tough and the FRAM guys are
doing a great job getting the car to go down the track.
"The Friday night session was stellar. To go out and run an .87 and be No. 2
was a great effort on the entire team's part. And with our teammate getting
the No. 1 spot, it puts us on a good edge for going into a hot race day. We
know it's going to be warm tomorrow; it's going to be a12-noon start.
"We've run well under most of the hot conditions these last two days, so we
know we have a combination for the first round."
"Cory Mac" will face No. 15 qualifier Scott Palmer in the opening round of
Sunday's eliminations.
