Line Targets Perfect Father’s Day Present in Bristol
Mooresville, N.C., June 17, 2010 – The 2010 Thunder Valley NHRA Nationals in Bristol, TN marks the third in a challenging stretch of four consecutive weekends on which the Full Throttle Drag Racing Series will be competing at locations across the country. Sunday’s final eliminations will also coincide with the celebration of Father’s Day, which is appropriate given the family-oriented nature of the sport. As a second-generation racer and the father of two young children, Summit Racing Pro Stock driver Jason Line hopes to enjoy the best of both worlds, as he looks to score his second win at Bristol Dragway with his family in attendance.
“I’ve always enjoyed going to Bristol,?? said Line. “As one of Bruton Smith’s tracks, you know everything will be top notch, and our Summit Racing team has had pretty good success there in the past, with both Greg (teammate Anderson) and I splitting a couple of all-Summit finals. I believe they’ve done some work to the track since last year, so it should be even better than it has been in the past.
“Best of all, my family will be coming up with me this weekend, which means a lot as Sunday is Father’s Day. It reminds me of when I was a little boy and my dad would take my brothers and I to the track - we thought it was the best thing in the world. Although my daughter Emma likes it because of all the people and the excitement, she’s still a little too young to know exactly what is going on. My son Jack, however, really likes race cars so he always has a great time. In any case, it will be great for me to have them there.??
Entering the weekend sixth in the championship standings, Line knows that in order to move up he and his KB Racing crew will have to get off the competitive roller coaster they have been on so far this season. Although they have had their share of highlights with a win in Gainesville and runner-up finishes in Charlotte and Chicago, they will need to minimize the uncharacteristic early exits seen at other races. Based on recent progress and the addition of an experienced and successful crew chief in Tommy Utt, the 2006 champion is confident the Mooresville, NC-based team will soon start making positive headway.
“This Summit Racing team needs to start running the way we are capable of, qualifying well and going deep into eliminations,?? said Line. “We’ve had a couple of glimpses in recent weeks, but we need to be a little more consistent, being in the thick of the battle at every race. Hopefully, the addition of Tommy Utt will help us get it done. I’ve known Tommy for quite some time, and I believe his knowledge and experience will play a key role in getting us back on track.
“It’s not going to be easy, but the potential is certainly there, and every member of this team is committed to getting it done. Besides, I’ve won on Father’s Day before and it would be pretty neat to do it again this weekend in Bristol with my family there to celebrate with me. That would be the best Father’s Day present I could think of.??
