~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mitch Dorr Race Report - Reaches Podium in Round 1 Rockford, IL (June 8, 2010) - The familiar red #817 made the trek to Antigo, Wisconsin for the opening Sportsman rounds of racing in the Traxxas TORC series presented by AMSOIL with one goal in mind, the 2010 Super Stock Championship. Driver Mitch Dorr has found success since entering the Super Stock class three years ago, but the Championship has eluded the second-generation racer. Two weeks before the Round 1, Mitch went to the MORR Crandon Test Day to try a couple of different chassis setups, and the day went well or so the team thought. Upon returning to the race shop, large copper shavings were found in the oil. Quickly the engine was removed and delivered back to the engine builder. One of the main bearings was found to be defective and the engine had to be completely torn down and checked for any damage. This meant the team had to burn the midnight oil just two days before Round 1 reinstalling the powerplant. Round One The blind draw saw Mitch Dorr's Fabricated Steel ATD Goodyear Ford F-150 starting in the eighth position. When the green flag waved thirteen Super Stock Trucks came charging down the 800 foot long straightaway. On the opening lap quitea bit of "rubbing" went on as the field headed into the infield portion of the track. The first few laps it was important to hold your lines and avoid any serious contact. Mitch did exactly that and by the midway point of the race, the Goodyear Ford was in fifth place. After the competition yellow, the field went back to racing and Mitch needed to make a few moves to reach the podium. The final four laps saw an aggressive yet controlled Mitch Dorr made the right moves to cross the finish in third place. "This has got be the most competitive truck class in TORC," noted Mitch Dorr. "Every winter it seems like everyone step up their race program and the number of front running trucks gets larger and larger." Overnight DORR Off-Road Racing cleaned up the truck and went through the usual between race prep as the truck made it through the first round with only a couple of minor body dings. Round Two The starting grid was inverted based upon the Round One finishing order. This put Dorr well back in the field. When the field took the green flag, Mitch knew he had to get into the top three by the competition yellow to have a shot at the win. Unfortunately, on the third lap the power steering housing broke ending his day early. Currently Mitch is in sixth place in the 2010 Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL Super Stock standings. The next race on the Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL schedule is June 19-20 n Crandon, Wisconsin.
