ARCHIE HAMILTON MAKES HIS LE MANS PODIUM DEBUT
Qualified Overall: 16th Finished: OA: 8th
Junior Class: 2nd
Winning the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours is Archie Hamilton's career goal,
following in the footsteps of his Le Mans winning grandfather, and today the
19 year old from Basingstoke had his first race and first podium at the
prestigious track in his Porsche Carrera Cup car. The race is a round of the
French Matmut Porsche Carrera Cup and is a support race to the 24 Heures du
Mans.
Archie's great pace in practice wasn't maximised in qualifying when his best
lap was on tyres past their best but his time was still enough to start 16th
from a field of over 40 cars.
Today's race was wet and from the eighth row on the grid Archie made a good
start but was pushed off the track on the second corner, dropping to 21st
place. With just 40 minutes to regain positions Archie focussed on his task,
and with his car on top form he set about moving towards the front of the
field. One by one he picked off the opposition and crossed the line in
eighth overall and second in the Junior class to take his first Le Mans
trophy.
Archie Hamilton:
"It has been an incredible experience. My grandfather won here in 1957 and
my father was so proud he was crying. This is just the start. I'm looking
forward to getting back to the rest of my Carrera Cup season in Britain and
get as much race experience as I can and hopefully look to secure a seat in
the Le Mans 24 Hours next year.
Archie's next event takes place at Croft, North Yorkshire on 19th and 20th
June. For further information and high resolution images please contact

Notes to editors:
Archie's grandfather Duncan Hamilton took part in numerous sports car races
and contested the 24 Hours of Le Mans nine times. He won in 1953 in a Jaguar
C-Type, despite colliding with a bird at 130 mph, which broke his nose.
