Eighth on Friday in Englishtown, Anderson Looks to Step Up on Saturday
 
Event:  41st annual United Association NHRA SuperNationals

The Pro Stock category was treated to tremendous conditions during the first day of qualifying for the United Association SuperNationals, with the Englishtown area enjoying spring-like temperatures and very little humidity.  As a result, the “factory hot rods�?? were able to post the quickest elapsed times in their last six races, dating back to the Houston, TX race in March.  
 
With two runs in the 6.5-second range, Greg Anderson and the Summit Racing team kept themselves in the upper portion of the 23-car field at Raceway Park, with their best effort of 6.564-second, 210.34 mph pass in the evening session earning the four-time Englishtown winner the provisional eighth starting spot.  Acknowledging the need to better their standing during their remaining two attempts on Saturday, Anderson and crew started working on finding a way to reestablish their race car’s competitive balance.
 
“We certainly have our work cut out for us,�?? said Anderson.  “Our race car has some issues that we need to figure out.  We seemed to have gained a little bit on Jason’s Summit Racing Pontiac, but we’re still trying to find the handle on mine.  Unfortunately, the two cars are acting completely differently, with something that works on one not working on the other.  That makes it very hard to race.  Somehow we have got to determine exactly what this car needs, because this is a great racing surface and we need to take advantage of it.�??
 
Despite his concerns about his ride, Anderson took time to express the tragic loss of sportsman racer Neal Parker earlier in the day.  Parker, from nearby Millville, NJ, was fatally injured in an incident at the top end of the track.
 
“It’s hard to lose someone at the track, especially right at the start of the day,�?? said Anderson.  “When something like that happens, nothing else really matters, but you still have to go out there and give it your best.  We may be disappointed in our performance, but in means nothing in light of the loss we suffered.  Our condolences go out to both he and his family.  It’s just a sad day in drag racing.�??
