Atlanta Motor Speedway to Host Two-Day Goodyear Tire Test for Labor Day
Night Race
HAMPTON, Ga. (June 10, 2010) - The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company will
conduct a two-day tire test at Atlanta Motor Speedway on June 15 and 16
as part of their effort to deliver a superior tire for NASCAR drivers
competing in the track's Sept. 5 Labor Day weekend NASCAR Sprint Cup
Series night race.
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Jamie McMurray, Paul Menard and Ryan
Newman will assist Goodyear in the critical test. The drivers will be
posting laps at speeds approaching 200 mph during afternoon and evening
hours to better simulate the track temperatures and conditions they will
face during the September race weekend.
Of the participating drivers, Newman has had the most success on the
1.54-mile Atlanta Motor Speedway with four top-10 finishes and a
remarkable seven pole positions. He is tied for the most in the track's
history with his mentor Buddy Baker.
McMurray has posted four-career top-10 finishes and a NASCAR Nationwide
Series win in Atlanta, while Menard has two top-10 finishes, including a
fifth-place showing in the track's Kobalt Tools 500 in March.
The two-day test is closed to the public.
The biggest Labor Day party in the USA is at Atlanta Motor Speedway on
Labor Day weekend, as the NASCAR Sprint Cup stars head to the high banks
for night racing on Sept. 4 and 5. For more information or to purchase
