Line Works to Add to His Englishtown History
Mooresville, N.C., June 10, 2010 – Throughout the course of the 2010 Full Throttle Drag Racing season, competitors will race on 20 different tracks across the country. Although the competitive distance for the Pro Stock category remains the same quarter-mile at every event, each venue has its own personality, from the modern multipurpose motorsports facilities most recently added to the legendary drag strips upon which the sport was built.
Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, which plays host to this weekend’s United Association SuperNationals, has been a fixture on the drag racing scene since the 1960’s. Located in Englishtown, NJ, this legendary speedplant has witnessed its share of history and a favorite among racers, with an “E-town?? Wally high on their wish list. With three Garden State wins to his credit coming into the weekend, Summit Racing Pontiac driver Jason Line is well aware of this event’s significance, and is ready to add to his already impressive total.
“Englishtown is a great race track, filled with a lot of our sport’s history, making it a fun place to race,?? said Line. “Depending on the weather, it can be extremely fast, or, if it gets hot, it can get very greasy with the bumps becoming more noticeable. In either case, you have definitely got to be on your game. Being an East Coast race, there will be plenty of Pro Stock fans on hand, which makes it even more fun for us.
“Although it’s special to win anywhere we race, it does give you a little extra boost to make it to the winner’s circle at Raceway Park. I’ve been fortunate enough to take the E-town trophy home three times in the past with my Summit Racing Pontiac, and feel like I’ve added my name to a long line of champions who have raced and won there in the past, which is pretty cool. Naturally, I’d like to make my contribution a little bigger this weekend.??
Just three days after his runner-up performance in Chicago, Line comes into Raceway Park looking to maintain his positive momentum. To do so, both he and his KB Racing crew will need to establish a competitive consistency, adapting their set-up to whatever conditions exist in Englishtown so as to extract the maximum performance from their race car. Naturally, it is a task easier said than done, with long hours spent on the track and in the shop looking for the perfect balance to overcome the power-robbing heat and humidity.
“It was nice shot in the arm to run as well as we did last week, but our focus is on what lies ahead,?? said Line. “The challenge for this Summit Racing team this weekend is to not only duplicate that performance, but better it, starting off in qualifying. To do that, we must find a way to make our engines happy under adverse atmospheric conditions.
“We spent one day testing in Chicago after the race, and the rest of the time on the dyno in our shop in Mooresville. We won’t really know until we let the clutch out in Q1 on Friday, but we’re hoping to finally shake what’s been bothering our race cars and start running as well as we’re capable of on a consistent basis. Simply put, we just want to win.??
