Two Weeks of Intense Racing for Casey Wyatt Racing
Newport News, VA- (May 29, 2010) After spending the day second fastest in practice, Casey was eager to qualify. But his qualifying effort failed to match his practice times; posting a disappointing time of 16.704 and a starting position of 11th after overdriving the exit of turn 4.
For 46 laps, the field ran nose to tail with little chance for advancement, but things soon started to shake up and positions started changing hands. While on the bottom of the track and racing for position, Casey was turned by the leader who was attempting to lap him. Fortunately, the car was no worst for the wear and he was able to continue. The spin mandated him to the rear of the field with 40 laps left to race. When the checkers waved, Casey had worked his way back to 7th position.
While preparing for this week’s Twin races, the team worked overtime to repair the damage incurred last weekend and returned to the track for practice Thursday evening. The team was very pleased with the changes they made to the car, the improvement in their lap times and look forward to the return of the TWIN 75’s this weekend.
Newport News, VA- (June 6, 2010) The practice session on Thursday night prior to race day was great, but Team 29 was blindsided by the “Gremlin” in their car once again after starting practice sessions. The car wouldn’t come up to speed, it missed, spit and sputtered, so the crew replaced the carburetor and returned to practice. The car was better, but not 100%. During the next break they replaced the fuel pump and the carburetor which made them miss the 2nd round of practice. Track officials gave Casey some hot laps and the car ran worst than ever.
After changing the carburetor for the third time, Casey headed to pre-qualifying inspection, then on to qualifying. Casey started 13th out of 17 and had to park the car after completing only 19 laps due to the return of the engine miss. The team had limited parts available to them due to their hauler being parked outside the pits which ended their chances to compete any more in the evening’s first twin.
At the conclusion of the first event; Casey, his team as well as others went to work once again to ready the car for the second race. Final attempts to get the car competitive included changing the carburetor again, dropping the fuel cell and removing the foam from it and the pick up line. Casey started the race 14th and by the half-way point, he had raced to 7th. His last two positions didn’t come to pass until laps 61 and 71. When the checkers waved, he came to the line 5th. The car missed the entire race and during post race inspection, a broken shock mount on the LF wheel was discovered. Car owner Wayne Wyatt would like to extend a special thank you to Team 29, Gene Nichols, Phil Warren and Eddie Falk for all of their help. It is appreciated more than you know.
Perseverance and determination carried the team through the night and they are hard at work this week readying for this Saturday nights event.
