Demeny Racing - TORC Antigo Event

Demeny Perseveres to Reach Podium in
Round 2
Abrams, WI (June
8, 2010) - Veteran racer Don Demeny arrived at the Langlade County Fairgrounds
sporting a completely new look to his Dodge Ram 1500 Super Stock truck. The
yellow truck welcomes Nsight Telservices as the team's new title sponsor while
Cellcom, Colortech, and BFGoodrich Tires are associate partners.
The layout
at the Langlade County Fairgrounds in Antigo, Wisconsin used the majority of
the .5 mile clay circle track along with a good run through the infield. The
track had a few jumps spread throughout the layout as well as a challenging
rhythm section through the middle of the infield.
Round One
The#885
Nsight Teleservices Cellcom BFGoodrich Tires Dodge Ram 1500 started from the
outside of the third row and with a couple of fast trucks in front of him, a
good start was especially important.
When the
green flag waved, Demeny took the high line around turns one and two and had a
great run down the back stretch when disaster struck. As all the trucks bunched
up heading into the infield for the first time, another truck made contact with
the Nsight Dodge puncturing the right rear tire. Demeny continued on for two
more laps, when the crew radioed to come to the Hot Pits for a tire change. The
tire change ended any hope of a top five finish, but Demeny charged on looking
to finish with as many Championship points as possible. Then with four laps to
the finish, driveline failure ended the day for Don Demeny, officially
finishing in tenth place.
Overnight
Don and his crew went to work repairing the driveline issues, and then found
additional problems with the powerplant. The all-volunteer team went to work
preparing the truck as rain fell throughout the night. By midnight the yellow
Dodge Ram was ready for Round Two.
The next
morning when the crew went to fire up the truck, the truck wouldn't move. When
the truck lost the driveshaft during Round One, it must have taken out the
transmission. With only six hours to the green flag, Charlie McCormick from Auto
Trans Designs, and Charlie Schlieve from Charlie's Transmission went to work
building another transmission. Somehow the guys put another gearbox together and
installed it with an hour to spare.
Round Two
The heavy
rains from the night before cancelled practice so the track had a chance to dry
out so everyone at Demeny Racing hoped all the engine and driveline issues
really were fixed.
The #885
Dodge started in the fourth spot on the grid when the green flag fell. Quickly
Don settled into a comfortable race pace, running in the fourth position,
looking to make his move during the second half of the race. When the mandatory
caution was over, Don
looked to make his move. With four laps to go, Don made his final pass stick,
and finished Round Two on the podium in third place.
"Everybody pitched in last night," remarked Don Demeny.
"Other Super Stock Truck crews came over to give us a hand, to make sure we
would make today's race, which is pretty cool about this class. A special
thanks goes out to my wife, last night she jumped right into the mayhem and
without her we wouldn't be racing today. Then this morning Charlie and Charlie
performed a miracle building us another transmission...Also thanks to all those
that make this event happen, Ron Krueger, MORR, USAC, TORC and all the
volunteers that came out to help this weekend."
After two
rounds of racing, Don Demeny is currently in fifth place in the 2010 TORC Super
Stock Truck Championship standings.
