Series Career-Best Track Qualifying Effort at Pocono for George

LONG POND, Penn. (June 4, 2010) -Tim George Jr. returned to Pocono for his third
visit with a little more experience under his belt. After a successful practice,
Tim George Jr. qualified the No. 31 Richard Childress Racing (RCR) Development Chevrolet
eighth for Saturday's Messina Wildlife Animal Stopper 200 - his best at Pocono Raceway.
The final practice session marked the first on-track activities at Pocono Raceway
this weekend, as 34 ARCA Racing Series drivers participated in the session. George,
driving the No. 31 RCR Development Chevrolet, was one of the drivers to undertake
the track nicknamed the "Tricky Triangle."
"Practice was smooth. We made steady gains. This was one of my hardest tracks last
year, and I feel a lot more confidant with my ability and the package that RCR has
put together for me here," admitted George, who is currently ninth in the ARCA Racing
Series driver's points. "Our Chevy power is very strong, my setup feels good, and
we made a couple of changes at the end that really helped out. It is great to have
a team that believes in me. We were consistent in the top-10 for the second half
of practice, and had a fifth place car for qualifying."
The New York, N.Y., native finished the lone practice session in the 11th position
maneuvering around the "Tricky Triangle" in 55.419 seconds at 162.399 mph. Preparing
to make his third career start at the track, George turned 26 laps during the hour
and forty minute-long practice.
Following practice, the No. 31 RCR Development team prepared for Menards Pole Qualifying
presented by Ansell, which rolled off at 1:45 p.m. The qualifying session determined
the starting line-up for Saturday's Messina Wildlife Animal Stopper 200, race 7
of the 20-race 2010 ARCA Racing Series.
In Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell, George was the 25th car to make
a qualifying attempt.
George, who earned his career-best series qualifying effort at Pocono Raceway, posted
a lap of 162.487 mph (55.389 seconds) around the 2.5-mile Pocono Raceway triangle
late during the session.
"The No. 31 RCR Development car was very good in qualifying. I got a little greedy
coming to the green and got loose. Other than that our goal was to finish top-10,
and we are eighth," added George. "We are looking good for the race tomorrow with
our strategy and Gere (Kennon), crew chief, on the box. Mike Dillon keeps pushing
me to do my personal best and I need that. All the guys have worked real hard, and
I appreciate their efforts."
The qualifying session was completed in full despite the presence of on-track incidents
throughout the session.
Pre-race ceremonies for the Messina Wildlife Animal Stopper 200 begin tomorrow,
Saturday, June 4, at 12:30 p.m. EST. The green flag for the 80-lap (200 mile) race
at Pocono Raceway waves at 1:00 p.m. EST. The event will be tape-delayed on SPEED
and will air at 4:00 p.m. EST Saturday afternoon. The race, however, will be broadcast
live through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com.
