Indianapolis, June 3, 2010: Just days after finishing the grueling Indy 500 in 14th and being honored as the Chase Indy 500 Rookie of the Year, Team Stargate Worlds/HVM Racing’s Simona De Silvestro now heads to Texas for the third in a series of oval races. This weekend’s Firestone 550K at the Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) is Simona’s first venture at the 1.5 mile banked oval, but with just two career oval races under her belt, she has grown increasingly confident with race dynamics and what it takes to run up front. After finishing 21st in Kansas and 14th in Indy, Simona is hopeful she can run up front in Texas.
Practice and Qualifying will take place on Friday with the race on Saturday. Versus will air the race at 8:00 pm ET. Live Timing and Scoring as well as Video will be available by logging onto www.indycar.com.
Texas also presents a unique opportunity for Simona to give to charity. Simona will be making a special appearance on Thursday with her sponsor Bernard Richards Manufacture (B.R.M.) and in collaboration with Neiman Marcus, Simona will present the B.R.M. #78 limited edition V12 Team Stargate Worlds Chronograph to the Two by Two organization’s Chairwoman Suzanne Droese on behalf of her sponsor B.R.M. Two by Two is an annual fundraiser for the Dallas Museum of Art and the American Foundation for AIDS Research
Simona De Silvestro, Driver No. 78 - “I am really looking forward to the night race at the Texas Motor Speedway. I watched that race over the years and have been impressed by the on-track action and look forward to bringing the #78 Stargate Resistance car and taking what I learned at Indy, and the momentum we gained there, and bringing it to Texas where hopefully we can have a great result. I’m also looking forward to the Two by Two event and providing whatever support I can to this great group. The B.R.M line of watches is incredible and I’m happy to be a part of their group.”
Keith Wiggins, HVM Racing Team Principal – “Coming off of a good and solid Indy performance, together with the valuable experience Simona gained there, we are looking forward to further improving our performance in Texas.”
Imran Safiulla, Team Stargate Worlds Principal - “We have barely caught our breath after Indy. We hope to carry some momentum into Texas. This is a home race for one our sponsors, B.R.M., and we have a few important events leading into the weekend.”
