He is on top of the points at Thunderhill and is at the top of the standings in the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship. LaFont came up short from winning three feature wins in a row as he finished second in their recent event at Thunderhill. He is now the track points leader and with his average of 1.2876, he is the overall leader in the National Championship. "After that first night of the season where I had my worst finish in over a year, it was nice to rebound with two wins," LaFont said. "In fact, we almost had three in a row but came up short by a bumper in our last race. We are hoping for the best and plan on staying out of trouble. There is tough competition at the other ASA Member Tracks and we are glad to be in the hunt for the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship." Thomas Hill finished third in his feature event this past Saturday night at Meridian Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Meridian, ID. His third place finish carried him to the top of the Meridian points standings as he has a 15-point lead over Shelby Stroebel in the standings. He is now second overall with an average of 1.1785. Nick Parker is barely holding on to the points lead at Rocky Mountain Raceways, an ASA Member Track in West Valley City, UT. He currently holds a three-point lead over Mark Ith Jr. in the track standings. He is third overall with an average of 1.0408. Only 26 points separate the top-five in the standings at Rocky Mountain. Roger Wilson is tied with Bryan Wordelman for fourth in the standings. Wilson continues to have the highest average overall with a 1.4056. If he can make up that 26-point deficit in the track standings to take the lead, he will become the overall leader in the standings. But, Ith has the second highest with a 1.3558. He just needs to make up that three-point deficit to see himself at the top of the standings. Over in the East Region, Corey Jankowski picked up another feature win at Dells Raceway Park, an ASA Member Track in Wisconsin Dells, WI, this past Saturday night. Along with setting the fast time and their large invert for the feature race, he could eventually be at the top of the overall standings soon. Just remember, this is still early and we will see many changes in the standings as we reach 14 race events, the minimum needed to ensure an accurate average in the standings. Drivers eligible for the National Championship must race weekly at an ASA Member Track along with being the 2010 track champion. The unique formula used to determine the champion not only includes where they finished but how many positions they moved up in each feature event. Which will provide the best weekly short track racing action this season. The 2010 National Championship season will end at midnight on Sunday, September 26, 2010.
