Experience Claims Victories on Saturday Night at SSP

 

Newberrytown, PA (May 29, 2010) - If your last name began with the letter "B" on Saturday night, May 29, then your chances were very good to win a feature event at the Susquehanna Speedway Park.  The all-time feature win leader at SSP for any class of cars, Carl Billet of Carlisle picked up his first Late Model feature event of the season.  Doug Bennett of Chambersburg claimed his third Street Stock checkers of the year.  Lancaster's Donnie Broderick continues to be unstoppable in the Xtreme Stock Car feature by winning his seventh straight.  Bill Brown Sr. won the Classic Car main event.  The only two driver to win a feature and not have their last name start with the letter "B" were Patrick McClane in the Xtreme Stock Car feature and Daryl Sipe in the Mini Vans.

 

John Baker grabbed the early lead of the 20-lap Late Model feature, but could only hold on for the first five circuit before Carl Billet took command.   Billet was flawless over the remainder of the race as Baker remained close if the veteran driver made a mistake.  Billet claimed his 51st career SSP victory with Baker finishing a strong second.  Randy Christine Jr. looked impressive in his third place run with John Moser finishing fourth.  Justin Ehrhart rounded out the top five.  Chrisitne, Ehrhart and Kyle Saylor were the heat race victors.

 

Jenn Scott drove the race of her life at SSP as she led the first 15 laps of the 20-lap Street Stock feature.  Multi-race winner Doug Bennett pressured high, then low, then side-by-side for the first 15 circuits until he finally grabbed the lead from the youngster.  Bennett held on over the final 5 laps to claim the win with Scott and Sam Rial waiting very close behind for a mistake by Bennett.  Rial edged out Scott for second.  Scott Thunberg finished fourth with Randy Zechman not far behind in fifth.  Rial, Bennett and Jimmy Slaseman won their respective heat races.  

 

Patrick McClane wired the field to win the 15-lap XSC Elite feature event.  Andrew Frye continued to pressure but settled for second at the end.  Brent Hake was scored in third, followed by Jason Failor and Jeff Keefer.  McClane was the heat race victor.  

 

Donnie Broderick continues to master the Xtreme Stock Car division with his seventh straight victory of the season.  John Frye led the first three laps with Jason Failor taking the lead on lap four.  At the midway point of the 20-lap event, Failor began to be pressured by Broderick.  As Broderick pressured on the low side lap-after-lap, Failor finally moved on car width lower on lap 16 which opened the door for Broderick to pass on the high side.  Once by him, Broderick went on to claim the win, followed closely by Failor.  Larry Landis, John Remlein and Tim Hahn finished third, fourth and fifth respectively.  Frye, Landis and Broderick won their heat races.

 

Racing action returns to the SSP Outback Track on Friday night, June 4 at 7:30 p.m. featuring quarter midget, kart and Adult Speedcar racing action.

 

Racing action returns to the Big Track at SSP on Saturday night, June 5 with the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, XSC Elite, Legends Cars and Road Warriors.  

 

Saturday will also be the next "Hometown Heroes" night of the season featuring the towns of Spring Grove, Thomasville, Felton and Red Lion.  All fans entering the speedway from the hometowns being honored will be admitted FREE to the grandstands by showing proper photo identification and filling out an information card at the ticket booth.

Swap Meet Added to the Next Wednesday Night Test & Tune on June 2

 

 

The next Wednesday Night Test & Tune session will be held on Wednesday, June 2 at the Susquehanna Speedway Park.  It is open to any type of racecars capable of competing on the 4/10 mile oval.  The cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination).  Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with open track time from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by class.  Each session will be 6 - 8 laps per session.  The grandstands are open free to the public.  Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 6/8 laps each or more if time permits.  The fuel pumps from Miller's Racing Parts will not be open.  Anyone needing fuel should contact Miller's Racing Parts directly at 717-766-0181.  The main concession stand will be open throughout the night. 

 

Also on Wednesday night, there will an open practice session for quarter midgets and karts at the Outback Track from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. under the lights.  The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with open practice from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  The cost will be $20.00 per driver with no charge for anyone else entering the grandstand and "cold pit" areas.  All Outback Track participants should enter the pits from the Kise Mill Road entrance behind turn 2 of the "Big Track." 

 

There will also be a bi-weekly racing swap meet added to all Wednesday Night Test & Tunes scheduled for 2010 at SSP.  The event is free to buy, sell or look.  All sellers will set up in the parking lot across the street from the speedway.  The times are from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Any racing related items may be sold new or used from go karts/quarter midgets to full-size racecars and everything in between.   This will give teas a chance to raise money by getting rid of equipment not needed and give other teams a chance to search for those items needed to stay on the track in 2010.  Cars, engines, parts and trailers may be available.

- Repeat Fan Discount Continues for 2010 - The popular "Repeat Fan Discount" program will continue at SSP in 2010.  There is a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week's events completed only.  Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during and at the end of the season for great prizes.  The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
