Clint Field Shows Championship Form at Laguna - LMPC Team In The Hunt

For the first segment of the 2010 American Le Mans Series Monterey presented by Tequila Patron at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this past weekend, Clint Field stunned the crowd with his dominating drive and lead of the scheduled 6 hour endurance race. Consistently fast through out the week, Clint capitalized on his second row starting spot taking the Guy Smith's poll sitting Dyson Racing Mazda deep into turn two. When the field came past the starter's stand for the first lap, it was all about Clint Field and the #37 Lenco Mobile Intersport Racing Lola.

Showing the skills that made him the youngest driver in IMSA history to win a prototype championship and the form he used to score victories in the world’s major endurance races – the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Sebring and Petit Le Mans, Clint continued to dominate leading every lap for the next hour and half.

The lead was Intersport's second in consecutive races with Clint matching his fathers early race dominance at Long Beach.

Unfortunately, with just three laps to go before his scheduled pit stop the Lola's engine let go putting an end to Clint's spectacular drive and the #37 team's afternoon.

Meanwhile, Brian Wong, Mitch Pagerey and David Ducote soldiered on in the #89 Quicksilver Oreca FLM09 LMPC car. Coming back from an incident in qualifying, the crew did a great job of getting the car ready for Saturday's race. The car ran extremely well throughout the race and experienced no mechanical issues.

"After we got caught up in an accident towards the end of Friday's qualifying, the team did an awesome job getting the car repaired," noted Brian Wong. "And as driver's, I think we showed that we have the pace during the race to run up front. The racing got really intense at times during my stint, but hard, close racing makes it fun. I had a really good time and felt we had a really competitive car."

"It was a good solid weekend and was really a step in the right direction," Brian added. "Unfortunately, lady luck was not on our side and we just missed the podium. But overall I felt we had a good weekend."

Intersport's IMSA Lites cars enjoyed a very successful weekend with new driver, James Kovacic of Australia wining in round 3 and taking 3rd in the endurance race. James had the fastest car in both races and started on the pole in race #2.

“I would like to thank Intersport and in particular Jon and Clint and the rest of the team for making me feel as though I was at home," said Kovacic. "The racing was fantastic and the car was perfect. The Laguna Seca track was a fantastic experience and winning on debut will be in my memory forever."

Teammate David Ducote captured a top-5 finish in the IMSA Lite's round 4.

Saturday’s ALMS race was a thriller in every sense. The six hour endurance test saw four different overall leaders, eight leaders in GT, an LMP Challenge race that saw the top two cars with one second between them throughout the final two hours and a dominating run for a first-time victor in GT Challenge.

CBS Sports will air the highly anticipated INTERSPORT production of the Monterey race starting at 1:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.

The next race for the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón is the Larry H. Miller Dealerships Utah Grand Prix.
