Comprehensive Language Services Arranged for Asian Games
GUANGZHOU, China - May 26, 2010 - The 16th Asian Games (www.gz2010.cn/en), part of the worldwide Olympic movement and governed by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is pleased to unveil a comprehensive language service package for the Games this November.
The Asian Games are the second largest sports event in the world after the Summer Olympic Games.
Recipients of the language services will be all categories of registered personnel of The 16th Asian Games. During the Games this November, a Language Service Centre will be set up while escort interpreting, conference interpreting, translating and telephone interpreting services will be available at competition venues and non-competition venues such as the Athletes Village, Main Press Centre and Headquarters Hotel.
GAGOC has named six translating service providers and four interpreting service providers and signed an agreement with Guangdong University of Foreign Studies to establish a multi-language service centre for the Games. During Games Time, 20 hotline operators will provide telephone interpreting services in nine languages:
ï???¬ Four operators for English
ï???¬ Three operators for Japanese, Korean, Russian and Arabic (respectively) and
ï???¬ One operator for Thai, Cambodian, Indonesian and Vietnamese (respectively)
The Games Language Service Team will comprise a large number of exceptional translators and interpreters, including experienced language professionals from the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics and The 15th Asian Games in Doha; specialists with international educational expertise; veteran interpreters from international and Chinese interpreting organizations; university teachers and students as well as winners of the Guangzhou Asian Games English Star Contest.

The 16th Asian Games (www.gz2010.cn/en) is approved and governed by the Olympic Council of Asia and will be held in “Flower City�?? of Guangzhou from November 12 - 27, 2010. More than 14,000 athletes, trainers and coaches from 45 countries and regions will compete in 42 sports. More than 10,000 accredited and non-accredited worldwide media are anticipated to cover the Games with more than three million spectators expected to attend.
