Mark Wilkins records another American Le Mans Victory in LMPC
Toronto, May, 25, 2010: Mark Wilkins seems to like back-to-back victories and he did it once again taking the LMPC class win at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend teaming with Scott Tucker and Christope Bouchut in the Level 5 Motorsports Oreca FLM09. The trio would lead one hundred and fifteen laps, or half the race distance in a close battle through the entire race.
Wilkins would find himself battling both LMPC and GT traffic during his stint as he made his way forward. At half-distance in the race, Mark was sixth overall with one LMPC and two GT cars ahead for position. He made short work of the GT cars using the more nimble LMPC car to it's full advantage on the challenging 2.238 mile circuit. Soon he was catching the class leader at more than one second per lap eventually making the pass which not only gave them the class lead, but moved the Level 5 Motorsports No 55 Oreca into third overall in the race.
Mark would hand the car over to Bouchut with ninety minutes left. The car also took on new tires and full tank of fuel to get to the end. Bouchut continued the battle and brought the car home first in class. The team would also finish third overall after falling to fourth when the race leader suffered engine failure with just twenty-four minutes to go in the race.
"We had to push really hard to keep up front," said Wilkins. "Christophe drove a great stint, so did Scott to keep the car up there. Level 5 gave us a great car at Sebring and they did here as well. We knew if we could run to the end we'd be right there." He continued, "This has been an amazing experience with two wins in two starts and I really have to thank everyone at Level 5 not only for the opportunity, but for giving us a car that is able to run at the front. I really enjoy Laguna Seca and have done well here in the past but it is always good when you can step on the podium. Taking a third overall is an added bonus and I can't wait to get back behind the wheel and do what I can to help Scott, Christophe and the team get the championship this season." The American Le Mans Series Monterey presented by Patron race will be broadcast on CBS on May 29th (one week tape delay) starting at 1:30 p.m. ET .
Mark now returns to the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series in the AIM Autosport Daytona Prototype for the event at Lime Rock Park on May 31st. Mark is coming off a podium result (2nd) in the last race.
