MELBOURNE – May 18, 2010: What will the cars of the future look like? How will they be powered? What safety features will they have and how environmentally friendly will they be?

If you know the answers to these questions, and you are a secondary or tertiary student, you should enter VACC’s Target 2020 competition.

Target 2020 is an annual competition with cash prizes for the winners and their school, college or university.

All secondary and tertiary students in Victoria are invited to enter by the closing date, Wednesday June 30, 2010.

Categories: Model Making, Drawing & Design and Essay

Levels of entry: Secondary (open to years 9 to 12) and Tertiary (TAFE or university students)

Prizes: The winners of the Model-Making and the Drawing & Design categories will win $3,000 for themselves, and $3,000 for their school, college or university. Winners of the Essay competition will win $500 for themselves and $500 for their school, college or university.

“Previous winners of Target 2020 have gone on to have successful careers in the automotive design industry,” VACC Senior Manager, David Russell, said.

“We know of students who have worked for Holden and Ford as a direct result of entering this industry recognised event. It is a great opportunity for the next generation of designers to show-case their talent.

“Every year we are bowled over by how good the concepts are. The imagination is impressive, as is the attention to detail. We have received several entries already and it is clear students have a high degree of technical knowledge and are environmentally aware. We look forward to receiving more entries before the June 30 deadline,” Mr Russell said.

Target 2020 entry forms can be downloaded from www.target2020.com.au or contact VACC on 9829 1281.
