Quinn Sails Away With Win #1 in Mods, While Hearn Breaks into Victory Lane in 358’s

West Lebanon, NY: Another action packed night of racing finally returned to the Valley of Speed as Matt Quinn returns to old form. Brett Hearn makes it one for one in the 358’s while a wild sportsman feature saw Kyle Armstrong muscle his way to a win.
The night was cool, but the mighty high banks were hot with action as the Madsen Overhead Door 30 lap Big Block Modified feature event hit the legendary dirt ½ mile. The hardest part of the night was finding the right groove.
Matt Quinn shot out to the early lead aboard his #20Q and took control of the field with Steve Hough and Matt Pupello in tow. Cautions flew early and often in this one, which kept Quinn from getting away from the field.
It seems as though it wouldn’t matter who got to the runner up spot, because there was just no one that was gonna put a damper on Quinn’s evening. As the Kokosa Oil Lap Counter clicked away lap 30, it was Quinn from wire to wire for his first win of 2010.
Following Quinn was Kenny Tremont Jr, Andy Bachetti, J.R. Heffner, and Mark Flach Jr to round out the top 5.
The 358’s were out earlier in the night for their 24 lap feature event. On the front row was the #16 of Kyle Hoffman and the #95 of D.J. Faulkner as the green flag flew to fire the field.
Hoffman was out front early, but by lap 8, Brett Hearn powered his #20H into the top spot, and took control of the field. A late race caution and charge by Matt Quinn was not going to keep Hearn from victory lane.
At the checkers, Hearn takes victory #1 on the season, Andy Bachetti jumped passed Quinn for 2nd, Kenny Tremont Jr settled into for 4th, while J.R. Heffner completed the top 5.
The Pro Stock 20 lap feature was next up with Kale Kneer out front early, but that lead was very short lived as the #315 of Jon Routhier powered out front by lap 2. Caution flew by lap 3, but that’s when all the excitement started.
From lap 3 till the rest of the race, Routhier had to hold off several contenders that were all over him nose to tail and door to door. Caution on lap 12 gave everyone a chance to catch their breathe for a final 8 lap shootout for the win.
The side by side action trading places kept the entire crowd on their feet for the last 5 laps as the lead swapped 4 to 5 times before it was all said and done. With 2 laps left, Chad Jeseo finally emerged from the battle and took a firm hold on the top spot.
Everyone else had to settle as Jeseo scored win #1 on the season. Robbie Speed, Jay Corbin, Mr. Excitement Victor Hopkins, and Kevin Arnold all battled it out to complete the top 5.
The last event on the night was the 20 lap Sportsman main event. Kyle Armstrong was at the point in the first laps before a scare crash brought the field to a 15 minute red flag. Contact just after a restart coming out of turn 2 between Kim Herrick and Alex Bell that caused the field to close on the slowing cars causing a melee of scattered sheet metal and parts.
In the end, 17 cars were involved, a few were able to continue, but 9 were returned to their pits in pieces. After the extensive clean up, the field was back under way. Armstrong was still out front of the remaining 14 cars left.
And that’s the way they would end. Kyle Armstrong scores victory #1 in 2010, Kolby Schroder followed in his tire tracks to finish 2nd, 3rd was Steve Meilleur, followed by Alan Houghtaling, and Olden Dwyer to round out the top 5.
May 22nd marks a special Sayer’s Auto Wrecking and Adirondack Tire $3,000 to win Danny Tag Memorial Modified Feature. Plus, its still School Appreciation Month as students K-12 get in for FREE! There is also plenty of cool stuff for the kids, and the 4 cylinders will be back in action.
