ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (May 14, 2010) – It took Bill Elliott nine attempts to find his way to victory lane at Rockingham Speedway.

His son Chase didn’t take near as long, dominating the Sunoco National Tour race Friday afternoon at “The Rock” en route to a victory in his first start at the track. In fact, it was his first start at a track over a half-mile in length.

“Pacing myself was the big thing,” Chase Elliott said. “This is a very long race for these kind of cars. The biggest thing was to have a set of tires at the end. Everyone who put a hand on this car did a great job getting ready to come race here.”

Chase Elliott led all 100 laps of the event.

“He ran well today,” said Bill Elliott, outside of victory lane. “He has a good understanding of what it takes to go fast here.”

Brian Ortiz finished runner up to Elliott, with Brent Downey, Joey Gase and Brian Blum rounding out the top-five.

With the dominating win under his belt, Chase sets his sights on his USAR Pro Cup debut in the Carolina 200 presented by Black’s Tire and Auto Service.

“Tomorrow he’ll be in that heavier (Pro Cup) car and trying to figure that thing out a little bit,” said Bill Elliott. “He ran well in practice today and he qualified ok. He’s got a good understanding of this stuff and if we can make the car better for him, he’ll be ok.”

“I’m really excited for tomorrow’s race,” said Chase.

He starts seventh after finding himself atop the scoring chart during the final practice session.
