ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (May 14, 2010) – After a long day of racing action at the Rockingham Speedway, Paddy Rodenback will lead the field of UARA Late Models to the green flag for the running of the 75-lap race and Clay Rogers will start out front of the USAR Pro Cup Carolina 200 presented by Black’s Tire and Auto Service.
“The car was really good today,” said Rodenbeck, who finished second to Corey Lajoie the last time the UARA cars raced at Rockingham. “It is sticking to the bottom, which is key to getting around here fast. We should have something for them tomorrow.”
Rodenbeck’s lap of 25.625 seconds was followed by Brandon McReynolds’ 25.634, Clint King’s 25.695, Brennan Poole’s 25.821 and Jamey Caudill’s 25.832 to round out the top-five.
Rogers paced USAR qualifying, going out eighth of the 19 cars to take time as the track temperature increased slowing speeds, to claim his 26th career pole with a lap of 24.614 seconds, 146.258 miles per hour.
“Going fast is part of the reason we started racing and if you can do it at Rockingham it’s a lot of fun,” said Rogers.
But turning a fast lap was not easy for Rogers, who has won both Pro Cup races at Rockingham, this time out.
“We cracked a piece of the chassis during practice,” Rogers said. “You carry so much load because you carry so much speed here that. We had a brace that cracked and broke free. We had a distributor pick up for the second week in a row. But the guys worked hard to get the car back right and we had a fast lap.”
Jeff Agnew, USAR points leader Caleb Holman, AJ Frank and Benny Gordon round out the top-five. 14-year-old Chase Elliott will start ninth in his Pro Cup debut.
The UARA 75-lap race takes the green flag on Saturday, May 15 at 11 a.m. with the USARacing Pro Cup Carolina 200 presented by Black’s Tire and Auto Service to follow at approximately 1 p.m.
