BROOKLYN, May 7, 2010: Millions of Americans have loved ones affected by the wars overseas, including people from Michigan.

With that in mind, the VFW Foundation and NSK are giving military families and friends an opportunity to get out and have some fun by sponsoring the “Salute to Military Families” program at Michigan International Speedway this June.

This is the VFW Foundation’s second year as the primary sponsor of the four year old program. NSK is a contributing partner for the second consecutive year after being the primary sponsor in 2007 and 2008.

“The VFW Foundation and NSK’s sponsorship of the Salute to Military Families program will give family and friends of the military the chance to have some fun at our racetrack,” track President Roger Curtis said. “The military already has a huge presence in the sport, but the VFW Foundation and NSK would like to make that presence even larger at our speedway. We appreciate the support of the program and what it means to all of our military heroes, including veterans and current military personnel here at home or fighting overseas.”

By sponsoring the “Salute to Military Families” program, the VFW Foundation will provide 250 tickets and hospitality to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 at MIS on June 13. NSK will provide 80 tickets and hospitality to the “Salute to Military Families” program. These tickets will be given to families whose lives have been altered by military duty, past and present.

Military personnel and their friends and family may visit www.MISpeedway.com/militaryfamilies and tell their story of dedication and commitment to our country. The VFW Foundation and NSK will select 60 lucky winners who will each receive two “Salute to Military Families” tickets and hospitality. Winners will be announced on June 4.

“The VFW Foundation is proud to give back to the Military Families that help protect our freedoms everyday” stated John G. Lowe, Deputy Director of the VFW Foundation. “The VFW Foundation views NASCAR as a perfect fit to help give back to those who honor our country by putting their lives on the line. We also feel that NASCAR and MIS is an outstanding tool to help spread the word to others about how to help those heroes through charitable donations.”

During the NASCAR Sprint Cup weekend, the VFW Foundation will focus its efforts on raising money to help those Military personnel whose lives have been impacted by the current and past wars through a text to donate campaign. To find out how you can help, please visit www.ReturnTheFavor.org for more information.

In addition to the campaign the VFW Foundation, NSK and its guests will also be taking part in Sunday pre race ceremonies, as well as promoting their foundation through brand recognition at the track. The VFW is also sponsoring the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race on Saturday, June 12 at MIS. The VFW 200 will begin at 2 p.m. that day.

Nestled in the lush Irish Hills of Southeastern Michigan, Michigan International Speedway is the Great Escape, a venerable NASCAR national park where fans can get away and enjoy the very best in racing and camaraderie. It’s the love of racing and the thrill of a great time for race fans and drivers alike.
