ASA WELCOMES WIMMER'S STATE PARK SPEEDWAY AS AN ASA MEMBER TRACK
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
American Speed Association PR
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Thursday, May 6, 2010) - The Wimmer family and the American Speed
Association have had a great relationship as Scott & Chris's careers included competing
in ASA sanctioned events.  Late last year, Scott and his father Ron  bought the
track where their careers started, State Park Speedway in Wausau, WI.  Today, they
became part of the ASA Member Track program.
"With our family's history with different ASA Series, we really feel this is the
 right way to go.  Scott used to race in the old ASA National Series and now Chris
races in the ASA Midwest Tour and got a chance to travel to South Africa with ASA
this past January," Ron Wimmer said.  "We've had great experiences with the American
Speed Association and are proud to become an ASA Member Track."
It wasn't a tough decision for Ron and Scott to join as an ASA Member Track, "Dennis
Huth has been a huge help throughout this whole process," says Ron Wimmer.  "We
really got a chance to know him over in South Africa and see the different advantages
to joining with ASA.  It's nice to know that he's there to talk to and work with
 you personally."
"My dad and I are very excited to make State Park Speedway an ASA Member Track,"
 Scott Wimmer said. "I grew up racing at State Park and to make this move and join
forces with ASA is something we think is a great for the track and for our drivers.
 The ASA name is well known in the racing circles and has a lot of great history;
we look forward to a long relationship with them."
State Park Speedway is a quarter-mile oval located outside of Wausau in the town
 of Rib Mountain, WI.  The track has a great history of racing and a who's who list
of drivers that have competed there.  Along with Scott & Chris, famous names like
Dick Trickle, Dave Marcis, Bobby Allison, Mark Martin, Tom Reffner, Bryan Reffner,
Marv Marzofka and more have competed.
This season, which will have a Thursday night schedule, will start on Thursday,
May 20th with a 75-lap Super Late Model feature.  They will host three signature
 events this season.  The Flip Merwin Memorial Race on Thursday, June 24th honors
a former crew member and snowmobile driver who lost his life in a snowmobile race
accident in 2003.  The Larry Detjens Memorial Race on Thursday, July 29th honors
 the late driver and uncle of Scott & Chris who lost his life in a racing accident
in 1981.  And the Wayne "Lodi" Lodholz Memorial on Thursday, August 26th honoring
the local Wausau racer who unexpectedly lost his life.
Their weekly divisions will include the Super Late Models, Sportsman, Pure Stocks,
and the Snap-On Mini Mods.
When the Wimmers were looking at the ASA Member Track program, one thing really
stood out to them, "The one thing that really stands out about ASA is their insurance
coverage for drivers," says Ron Wimmer.  "We will give all crew members and support
division drivers an opportunity to purchase an ASA Membership for $90 and super
late model drivers an opportunity to purchase a membership for $125.  What this
membership gives you is incredible.  Not only will it give drivers $500,000 of excess
personal accident coverage that also includes a dental plan, but it also covers
them to and from the track, which is something no other insurance program offers."
Ron Wimmer sees a lot of positives by being a part of the ASA Member Track program,
"While we hope to fill the grandstand on Thursday nights, we also really want to
 take care of the drivers as well.  This ASA deal gives us an opportunity to offer
great insurance to drivers and also team up with one of the premiere short track
 associations in ASA."
"I had the opportunity to meet with Ron, Joan and Chris Wimmer when we visited the
Republic of South Africa earlier this year," Dennis Huth, ASA President said.  "They
are a great racing family and it's awesome that they bought State Park Speedway
to ensure that short track racing is still alive in the Wausau area.  We are excited
to have them as part of the ASA Member Track program.  We look forward to seeing
 this track grow and wish the Wimmers nothing but success."
