HELBERG TAKES
FLAG-TO-FLAG USAC SPRINT WIN AT SHASTA

 

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (April 26, 2010) – 2009 USAC Amsoil
Western Sprint Car Series runner-up JoJo Helberg of Rohnert Park, Calif. led all 40 laps in
Saturday night’s races at Shasta Raceway Park in Anderson, Calif. to take the
feature win.

 

Fresno’s Audra Sasselli
claimed the pole position with a qualifying time of 14.830 seconds around the
3/8ths mile paved asphalt oval track, but was a scratch for the remainder of
the evening.

 

Sasselli’s scratch moved Helberg into the fast
qualifiers dash race, which he won over Tanner Swanson of Kingsburg, Clovis’ Luis
Ramos, and five-time championTony Hunt of Lincoln, Calif.

 

Swanson, the 2009 series champion, made the
trek up to Shasta to drive the #14 car for Ken Pierson.

 

In a non-points paying, eight lap heat race,
Shauna Hogg guided her #5 Backpack Charlie entry to the win over Helberg,
Swanson, Ramos, and Hunt.

 

For the 40 lap feature event, Helberg started
on the pole and led all 40 laps around the speedway. Hogg had a strong drive to
run second ahead of Hunt, Swanson, and Ramos the top-five. Leaving Shasta, Hunt
leads the points standings by seven points over Helberg.

 

This weekend, the series will embark on their
third straight weekend of racing in the opening stint of the 2010 calendar with
a race at the new Stockton 99 Speedway. The event will comprise of five
open-wheel racing divisions including USAC Western Sprints, USAC Western
Midgets, USAC Ford Focus, USAC Young Guns, and NCMA Sprint Cars. 

 

Several drivers will be running in multiple
classes during the evening including Tanner and Kody Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif.

 

Tanner will drive for the #10 Eskeen Midget and
a Sprint Car to be announced. Kody, the 2005 series champion that has been
running full-time in the USAC Silver Crown Series, will be drive the #16 Mott
Sprint Car and the #4 Rosen Midget.

 

Modesto’s Jimmy Riddell will
compete in both the USAC Western Sprints and NCMA Sprint Cars aboard a pair of
#19 Hornet Sprint Car Chassis entries.

 

Grandstands at the historic half-mile asphalt
oval will open at 4 p.m. with racing beginning
at 6 p.m. General admission
tickets are just $20 with a $55 family pack for two adults and two juniors.
Fans are invited to a free practice Friday from 4
 p.m. to 8 p.m. as well.
