ASA PR DIRECTOR GIVES AN INDUSTRY SEMINAR AT THE RECENT COLLEGIATE DECA INTERNATIONAL
CONFERENCE

American Speed Association PR
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Tuesday, April 27, 2010) - College marketing students from all
over the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico recently gathered for the 49th Annual
Collegiate DECA International Career Development Conference in Louisville, KY.
During the conference, students attended various academies along with competing
in various marketing competitions. The American Speed Association was represented
in the Integrated Marketing Communications Academy.
ASA gave an industry seminar which was presented by Kevin Ramsell, ASA's Director
of Public Relations. Ramsell's seminar was titled, "Making an 'IMPRESSION' in Auto
Racing." The seminar focused on how branding works in auto racing and focused more
on the local and regional level. It featured video interviews with sponsors, drivers
and track promoters along with ASA's journey to the Republic of South Africa to
help increase the branding for the fast growing sanctioning body. This also included
showing the exciting final three laps of the Free State 500 event that took place
back on January 31, 2010. Along with the many different career opportunities available
to students at local track and regional racing series.
"I had a lot of students come up and visit with me immediately after the seminar
and the following days of the conference," Ramsell said. "Many asked about the
different opportunities available and hopefully many will follow up to pursue the
many jobs available at short tracks. The best part was that the seminar opened
many of their eyes to the opportunities available at our local short tracks and
regional racing series for marketing students. Many local tracks and series are
looking for sales, marketing, public relations, event planners and much more.
Hopefully this will start something to where these students, who are involved in
this organization, will go and use their education along with sharing their talents
with the short tracks/series to help them grow. I think the tracks and series will
embrace this."
Not only did Ramsell present the Industry Seminar, he also sat in on a Career Seminar
Panel and judged the Sports & Entertainment Marketing event.
"It was a pleasure to be a part of this International Conference," Ramsell exclaimed.
"I have been personally involved in this organization for 19 years. I have been
a competitor, a State Officer, and a judge on the regional, state and international
level. It's great to have this opportunity to give back to an organization that
has personally helped me grow into what I am doing now."
"This was a great opportunity for ASA to reach out to a group of people that may
or may not have been familiar with short track racing," Dennis Huth, ASA President
said. "Short tracks and regional series offer a great opportunity for these college
marketing students to get a start and gain the experience that many need to advance
in their careers. We are currently doing a program with high school students who
want to pursue a career in auto mechanics through our ASA Educational Series and
it is getting a great response. The short tracks and series could use their fresh
ideas and enthusiasm to keep our sport going and growing."
