Wall Claims Late Model Victory at SSP on Saturday Night

 

Newberrytown, PA (April 24, 2010) - Hanover's Mike Walls won the 20-lap Late Model feature on Saturday night, April 24 at the Susquehanna Speedway Park.  Doug Bennett of Chambersburg claimed his second Street Stock feature win of the season with Andrew Frye of Etters winning the XSC Elite feature.   Donnie Broderick of Lancaster is three for three with Xtreme Stock Car victories this season.  Tim Henry won the Legends Cars feature with Brian Lefebvre winning the 12-lap Road Warrior feature.

 

In Late Model action, Larry Baer took the early lead from the pole position, with Cam Zeigler and Alex Updegraff in pursuit.  On lap four, Baer spun after contact from Updegraff, relegating both to the rear after the caution flew.  Mike Walls was the leader by default with the vacancy of th top two spots.  From that point, Walls continued to lead to the finish with Jake Jones coming home second after starting 9th.  John Moser Jr. had a steady run from a 7ht place starting spot to finish third.  Randy Christine Jr. and Zeigler rounded out the top five.  Zeigler and Baer scored the heat race wins.

 

Doug Bennett grabbed the early lead in the 20-lap Street Stock feature with challenges from Brett Pickel and Doug Hoffman.  Hoffman finally took the lead from Bennett on the 13th circuit.  With two laps to go, Hoffman slipped just enough to return the lead back to Bennett who remained in the top spot through the finish.  Hoffman was scored in second at the end, followed by Randy Zechman, Jim Palm Jr. and Bob Scott Jr.  Last year's Street Stock champion escaped injury after a wild ride on the backstretch fence that destroyed a caution light. Hoffman and Bennett were heat race winners. 

 

In a very close and competitive XSC Elite feature, Andrew Frye scored his first victory after Patrick McClane was disqualified in post-race tech.  Results for the division are unofficial pending appeal.  Travis Horan was second with Jason Failor in third.  Frye was the heat race victor.  

 

Donnie Broderick took the lead of the Xtreme Stock Car 20-lap on lap five from his fourth place starting spot from polesitter Jason Failor.  As in past weeks, there was lots of action close behind Broderick for the entire race. Once again for the third straight week, he was able to hold off all challenges to win his third of the season.  Failor followed in second, with Tim Hahn scoring a third place podium finish.  Larry Landis finished fourth with Adam Smith in fifth.  Smith and Failor won their respective heat races.

Tim Henry won the caution-marred 15-lap Legends Cars feature over early leader Blaine Leppo.  Bill Diehl, Scott Houdeshell and Lucas Montgomery rounded out the top five in the race.  A total of 10 caution flags were recorded in the race.   

 

Brian Lefebvre wired the field to lead all 12 laps of the Road Warrior feature besting Chris Holland and Curt McDade.  Jim Jacobs and Rick Burnham round out the top five.

 

Racing action returns to the SSP Outback Track on Friday night, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. featuring quarter midget, kart and Adult Speedcar racing action.

 

Racing action returns to the Big Track at SSP on Saturday night, May 1 with the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, XSC Elite, Classic Cars and Mini Vans.  

 

Saturday will also be the next "Hometown Heroes" night of the season featuring the towns of Lewisberry, Etters and New Cumberland.  All fans entering the speedway from the hometowns being honored will be admitted FREE to the grandstands by showing proper photo identification and filling out an information card at the ticket booth.

The Next Wednesday Night Test & Tune is on May 5

 

 

The next Wednesday Night Test & Tune session will be held on Wednesday, May 5 at the Susquehanna Speedway Park.  It is open to any type of racecars capable of competing on the 4/10 mile oval.  The cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination).  Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with open track time from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by class.  Each session will be 6 - 8 laps per session.  The grandstands are open free to the public.  Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 6/8 laps each or more if time permits.  The fuel pumps from Miller's Racing Parts will not be open.  Anyone needing fuel should contact Miller's Racing Parts directly at 717-766-0181.  The main concession stand will be open throughout the night. 

 

Also on Wednesday night, there will an open practice session for quarter midgets and karts at the Outback Track from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. under the lights.  The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with open practice from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  The cost will be $20.00 per driver with no charge for anyone else entering the grandstand and "cold pit" areas.  All Outback Track participants should enter the pits from the Kise Mill Road entrance behind turn 2 of the "Big Track."
