McCLENATHAN LOOKS FOR FIRST ST. LOUIS WIN
BROWNSBURG, Ind. (April 26, 2010) - Cory McClenathan and the FRAM Top Fuel
dragster team have been heating up the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series
tracks this season, winning twice in three final rounds so far, and trailing
leader Larry Dixon by just one point after six events. The battle for his
first championship in his 20th season continues at this weekend's 14th
annual NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway International Raceway in Madison,
Ill., just outside of St. Louis.
"We've done fairly well in St. Louis before," said McClenathan, who was
runner-up there in 2007. "We've never won in St. Louis, but at the same time
we go into every weekend with the same philosophy: go in and try to qualify
well, go some rounds on Sunday and continue to accumulate points.
"That's worked out pretty well for us. It's like the FRAM guys and I have
told each other, ŒDon't lose sight of what we're trying to do here.¹
Obviously, we have some very capable crew guys and crew chiefs (Todd Okuhara
and Phil Shuler) on the FRAM team, and nobody has a chip on his shoulder. We
have some very level-headed guys working on this thing.
"It's been a lot of fun for me this year," added McClenathan, who's enjoyed
racing probably the most consistent race car in the category. "I would
obviously love to do great in St. Louis. We've done everything from night
racing there, racing during the day, and the weather has always been
challenging. Obviously that has a lot to do with how the cars run.
"This will be a different time of year, so we're probably going to hit it at
a pretty good weather stage. I'm looking forward to it."
