Special Decals on Shell-Pennzoil and 3M Cars Part of Larger Initiative to Support "Call 811" and National Safe Digging Month

***MEDIA ADVISORY***
Special Decals ON SHELL-PENNZOIL and 3M CARS part of larger initiative to SUPPORT "call 811" and NATIONAL SAFE digging month

WHO/WHAT: Two top race teams and the Governor of Alabama are among those supporting "Call 811" and National Safe Digging Month surrounding the upcoming April 25 race in Talladega.

Kevin Harvick of Richard Childress Racing (RCR) will run the "Call 811" logo on the deck lid and rocker panels of the No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet at Talladega Superspeedway. The logo will also run on the hood, deck lid and TV panel of the No.16 3M Ford Fusion. The addition of the logo is part of a larger effort to educate fans and encourage them to make a quick and easy call to 811 to help protect people from unintentionally hitting underground pipelines, infrastructure and utility lines, which can put the community and environment at risk.

In addition to RCR and 3M backing the cause, Alabama Governor Bob Riley has proclaimed April as National Safe Digging month in the state of Alabama and is urging all excavators and homeowners to call 811 before doing ANY digging.

WHY: In an effort to promote public safety, Shell, 3M, and RCR, in conjunction with the Common Ground Advisory and its members, are encouraging homeowners and contractors to call 811 before they dig to prevent injuries, property damage and inconvenient outages. Every digging job requires a call - even small projects like planting trees or shrubs.

One out of every two Americans who are personally planning a home digging project have watched a race either in the stands or on television in the past year. In association with National Safe Digging Month, the April 25 race at Talladega provides a unique opportunity to educate homeowners about the proper safety procedures to follow when doing any digging.

QUOTES: "We are excited to see Shell and 3M continue to demonstrate their support of underground damage prevention during the April 25 race at Talladega," said Bob Kipp, President Common Ground Alliance. "Richard Childress Racing, Shell and 3M are committed to safety and understand the importance of calling 811 to avoid risking injury to yourself and those around you in addition to potentially causing harm to the environment."

"Building projects should not be a race and rushing can lead to both poor quality work and dangerous situations," said Richard Childress, President and CEO, Richard Childress Racing. "Hitting an underground facility and knocking out power or gas to your entire neighborhood can cause a lot of problems. Call 811 before you do ANY digging."

"I Bob Riley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim April 2010 as National Safe Digging Month in the State of Alabama and urge all excavators and homeowners to call 811 before digging." - Excerpt from Proclamation by the Governor of Alabama, Bob Riley
