LOCAL HEROES AND MENTORS AVAILABLE AT ASA MEMBER TRACKS & SERIES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
American Speed Association PR
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Tuesday, April 20, 2010) - Many parents today may not admit it
to others, but deep down inside they have their heroes. Whether it was an athlete,
comic book or movie, they always looked up to someone and dreamed of being like
them someday or even have the opportunity to meet them.
Some of those heroes are race car drivers, and for many of today's youth, some of
their heroes may be drivers they see on television. But for some youngsters and
adults, they find heroes at their local ASA Member Tracks and sanctioned series.
"I remember growing up how we went to the race track and was just in awe of the
racing I was watching from the stands," Kevin Ramsell, ASA Director of Public Relations
said. "The first time I went, I was about 11-years-old and I quickly looked at some
of these drivers as celebrities. The cool thing for me was at the end of the night,
we walked to the pits and got to see the cars up close, take my checkered flag and
the goal was to get every white square filled with a driver's autograph."
Those drivers became household names like the stars you see on television. It was
one incentive to go back to the track or see a series race when it came to your
area because you wanted to see those heroes compete in person. Then afterwards have
the unique opportunity to talk to them about the race itself as you visit the pits.
Pretty soon, you become a fan of those drivers and your reason for going to the
ASA Member Tracks and sanctioned series was to make sure they knew you were supporting
and cheering them on.
Regular fans of short tracks from all across the United States and even the world,
can each share a story about how they watched a certain driver compete at their
weekly track and regional series and now today they see them on television competing
and being successful. They also feel a sense of pride when that driver wins because
that person feels that they know him or her. Their hero isn't a fantasy but a reality
and they share in their success.
Along with heroes, there are also mentors that can be found as well. Mentors who
 want to share their insights of this sport to the next generation in order to keep
this sport moving forward.
That is why ASA has teamed up with Ohio Technical College to create the ASA Educational
Series. Starting this season, many ASA Member Tracks are participating in this program
where a high school student who is interested in attending OTC can have a great
opportunity to work on a race team at an ASA Member Track. Through their hard work,
on-track performance of the team they are with, keeping a logbook and submitting
 an essay...these students will compete for a scholarship award to help defray the
cost of attending OTC to further their interested career in the automotive industry.
"There is a generation that is missing out on the opportunity of what is available
at our ASA Member Track and sanctioned series," Dennis Huth, ASA President said.
 "Heroes and mentors is something our youth needs to embrace in today's world. Most
of our competitors can be a positive role model for them. The best part is that
they can meet these heroes and mentors at an affordable admission price, they can
do it together as a family, and they themselves can pass it along to the next generation."
The ASA Member Track program is comprised of dirt and asphalt short tracks along
 with road courses around the United States, as well as a variety of regional and
national touring series. For more information, call (386) 258-2221 or send an e-mail
