Jackson County Sports Park is the home of Southern Oregon Speedway, the newest ASA Member Track. "We are excited to be a part of the ASA Member Track progam," John Skinner, Promoter said. "Dennis has been a long time friend of mine and a few months ago we met and talked about working together again. I like what he is doing, he has a great program and it was an easy decision." Southern Oregon's 2010 season will open on Sunday, April 11th with a $500 to win 200-lap Street Stock Enduro. It's weekly racing program will start on Saturday, April 17th with the "Season Opener Pear Blossom Special" with a $1,000 to Win Modified feature and a $1,000 to win Sprint feature event. The Pro Stocks, Super 4's, Dwarfs, and Mini Stocks will also be in action. Other big events throughout the season includes: Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series Western Speed Week on Saturday, June 12th; Firecracker 50 with a huge fireworks show on Saturday, July 3rd; Gene Romero's West Coast Flat Track Series on July 16-17th; and Lon Skinner Memorial King of the Dirt on September 4-5th; and wrapping up the season on September 24-25th will be the Late Model extravaganza Battle at the Border - dedicated to local hero the late Roger Lorenzini Sr. The Golden State Challenge will pay $3,000 to win for the 410 Sprint Cars. The Lon Skinner Memorial King of the Dirt event is one of the largest dirt Modified events in the country. Last year's event had 81 Modifieds competing. The 2010 event will have a large purse that will pay $6,000 to the winner. The even is named in honor of John's father. "We are proud to welcome Southern Oregon Speedway to our ASA Member Track program," Dennis Huth, ASA President said. "John has worked very hard with his new management group to make this a success. We are very happy to work with them and help Southern Oregon grow." For Huth, having Southern Oregon Speedway as an ASA Member Track has a personal meaning to it. In 1971, he bought the original Medford Raceway that was located in the city of Medford. It was during the time he was promoting that he had John Skinner as one of his competitors. Skinner got the itch to promote an event and Huth leased the track to him. When Huth sold the track to another person, Skinner went on to help build Southern Oregon Speedway and still operates it today. Skinner also has multiple businesses in the Medford area as well. Southern Oregon Speedway is located about 15 minutes east of downtown Medford and just outside of White City, OR. Along with the 1/3-mile clay oval, they also have a dragway next door.
