Jeggie soars in Pro Stock; brother Troy a Pro Mod player

HOUSTON (April 9) -- A pair of championship-winning brothers, Jeg and Troy
Coughlin, began Friday's action at Houston Raceway Park with some
fantastic runs.

Jeg, a four-time titlist in Pro Stock, showed up his older brother by a
smidge, running a best of 6.557 seconds at 212.23 mph in his JEGS.com
Chevrolet Cobalt to earn the provisional No. 2 position. For his part, Troy carded
a 5.943 at 238.60 mph to assume the ninth slot in Pro Mod. Troy is the
reigning world champion in NMCA Pro Street.

"The car's running pretty well," Jeg said. "The first round we were second
to (low qualifier) Mike Edwards and had top speed so that was exciting. We
fixed a few things we thought were plaguing us in Charlotte as far as
getting it to run the last few hundred feet more efficiently and I think Victor
(Cagnazzi, team owner) and the guys did a nice job there, which is why our
speed was up.

"We underestimated the track just a touch in Round 2. The clouds rolled in
and it was cooler than many of us expected. The car worked perfectly and
did exactly what we asked it to do. We just didn't ask it to do enough."

Mid-pack in what is becoming the quickest Pro Mod field ever assembled,
Troy's '68 JEGS.com Chevrolet Camaro continues to improve each session.

"The main thing today is we didn't hurt anything," said Troy, whose car
utilizes nitrous as a power-adder. "We're leaning on it as hard as we can
trying to catch up to the supercharged guys. We want to be perfect every round
-- driver, engine, and car. We'll keep working on it."

The final session of Pro Mod qualifying is set for 1:15 p.m. with Round 1
of eliminations slated to begin at 4 p.m.

Pro Stock has two time trials left at 11:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. with
eliminations on Sunday.

"I'm excited to be here in Houston," Jeg said. "We've had a tough start to
the season. The first four races could have been better, for sure. But we
seem to have the car running strong again and that's a great deal. It
certainly makes it more fun."
