They will have their season opener this weekend with the 44th Annual Apple Cup. "We're getting organized and staying busy but we are alive," Ted Pollack, Yakima Speedway Promoter said. "We have a really good schedule this season with eleven Late Model events, the ASA Northwest Late Model Tour will be here twice and our Fall Classic." Pollack also said that their primary focus this season is getting fans to come back to the track and attracting new fans as well. He has a big plan for their Mid-Season Championships, "Our Mid-Season Championship will have an admission price of $2.00 and our goal is to fill the grandstands," Pollock said. "We are also lowering our prices on some of our big events and on kids prices. We want people to come back to our track and enjoy the entertainment we provide." Along with their seven classes and the ASA Northwest Late Model Tour, they will also be welcoming the Northwest Outlaw Street Stocks, Cast Iron Nationals 360 Sprint Cars, Vintage Modifieds, Washington Midget Racing Association, and West Coast Vintage Racers. Plus they will have the 2nd Annual Washington Street Stock Challenge and Hornet Challenge for cash on July 3rd. Yakima Speedway has a great history and plan on adding to it in their 45th season. In the past 44 years, a who's who in racing have competed at the half-mile oval. Some of those include Hersel McGriff, Don Dowty, Ron Eaton, Brad Tidrick, Roger Hall, 1990 Daytona 500 Champion Derrike Cope, Bob Schweigert, Garrett Evans, Jeff and Jason Jefferson, Travis Bennett, BJ Tidrick, and 2009 Apple Cup Champion Jason Fraser.
